Hi we are planning a few days away next week. Would like any recommendations for a pub stopover or site near a cosy traditional lakeland pub. You know the thing...blazing fire, good beer and maybe food :)if there are walks too it would be a bonus.

Depends where in the Lakes you're heading. The White Heart in Bouth - South Lakes. Roaring fires, excellent food and guest beers.

Thanks Christof looks lovely. We are probably going to the middle lakes and maybe Keswick area but we could call on way home if we have time.

If you end up in Ambleside there is a very authentic Lakes pub called the Golden Rule. It's tucked away behind the town and is a favourite with walkers. The Hole in The Wall in Ambleside is popular too. Not that familiar with Keswick but I'm told there's lots of choice there.

You're right there isn't .... even for cars most of the time! I didn't realise the Millers Bridge had closed. The C&CC site in Bowness is good for walking access into Bowness where there are quite a few pubs and coffee shops. Alternatively Fallbarrow Park is very close to Bowness but it's a pricy site. Further north Pooley Bridge has a couple of Inns with a sites within walking distance on both sides of Ullswater.

I second the Swinside Inn, had two nights there in September. Stunning views great food at reasonable prices and log fire. Booking in advance essential and I got the impression that were expected to have a meal, that's fine it suited us.

Thanks for your suggestions. One more question please. Our van is just a tad under 7 metres I have Google earthed the pubs to see if the suggested pub car parks are large enough for us but it is a bit difficult to be sure. Any one had any difficulties?

We use the Sun Inn at Pooley Bridge quite often and never have any issues, if you email them through their website they normally reply within a day. Any time we go we tell them we will buy a few beers and possibly a meal, if we stay 2 night we normally have a few beers the Friday and eat on the Saturday, the staff are excellent and will cone off part of the car park for you.

C & CC club site at Keswick - walk into town and there are loads of pubs and restaurants, not far, but there is a walk so may not suit. Keswick is a beautiful town though, especially when all dressed up for Christmas.

There's also a hike direct from town to The Castlerigg Stone Circle - not too demanding - just enough to build up an appetite for a meal in the pub on the way back! (y)

You can also stay at Kendal Cricket club for £5 a night, just on edge of town and have a lovely clubhouse.
