I’ve never been to Cornwall
Obviously subject to us all being in a better place with Covid, looking to spend a couple of weeks down there this coming summer

Thinking few days each at a couple of sites with a Toad or a Hire car to “explore”

Got no kids or dogs and dont need a bar on site, but not averse to paying good money for a good site

Would like to be able to walk to a coastal village/town on days when not exploring by little car

Any 1st hand recommendations?

Thanks in anticipation

Haven at Perranporth have good deals off season - £10 a night in September for example.

Walk across the cliffs or along the beach into Perranporth or even Newquay if you are feeling fit.

Heligan Touring Park walkable into Mevagissy and near the entrance to the Lost Gardens.

Menehay Farm walkable into Falmouth.

Ayr Holiday Park walkable unto St Ives.

Looe CAMH walkable into Looe.

Padstow Touring Park walkable into Padstow.

We are holed up at Carnon Downs at present, lovely site, Truro 3 miles walk, N3 coast to coast cycle path nearby, decent walks to estuary too. Pub across the road, shop 1 mile away. Also Chegwyn Farm CL/CS just down the road if you want a smaller site, but no showers/toilets.

Looe also a lovely site and as Janine says above, nice walk into Looe

This site was on Susan Calman's MH trip in Cornwall, which was on the box last night. It is in a spectacular setting above a cliff near Tintagel. I haven't been but we will when things return to normal.

Trewethett Farm Caravan and Motorhome Club Site
Trethevy, Tintagel PL34 0BQ

It's a CMC site: https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-...ll/cornwall/trewethett-farm-caravan-club-site

Places we have been to are the CMC site at Sennen Cove right at the tip of Cornwall. It's a good site but in the middle of nowhere and the path down to the beach is a steep pull on the way back. The coastal path is challenging in places if you walk in the opposite direction to Land's End.

Our favourite site probably remains Treloan at Portscatho on the Roseland Peninsula. Lots to see in the area and easy walking plus the superb Hidden Hut for lunches is a short walk away.

well, itwas the programme last evening that has inspired the decision

Doubletrees farm. Lovely terraced site overlooking Carlyon Bay from a distance. Easy 10 minute walk to Eden Project meaning you get in a lot cheaper. Beech motors in St Austell is great for car hire and will pick you up from the site. Good bus service to Fowey from the main road and a lot easier than trying to park. Same price about £18 all year round and frequently meet other Funsters.

We stayed at Trewethett Farm couple of years back and even the walk to the bus stop is a canny hike!

But, as a base for touring we thought it was perfect, just be prepared for very narrow roads whilst driving around.

I highly recommend, Clovelly, Tintagel, st Ives, minack theatre amongst all the obvious

I was slightly annoyed with her show last night that didn't actually show more of the area!

We have booked in at Trewethett Farm in July as part of our 2 week tour of Cornwall. In fact all our bookings are C&MHC sites because this is a plan B in case we cannot travel to Europe safely or if there are any other Coronavirus related mishaps from now until July. If we are allowed to travel and all is ok we will cancel the bookings with no money lost.

No shortage of sites in Cornwall.
And every summer many farmers add a summer crop of campers for 28 days.

This summer, as there will be millions on another staycation year, I'd get your bookings in ASAP, as I think you'll be lucky to find space for a hike tent on a decent camp site in July and August.

Porth fab for walking in to Newquay’s coastline and choice of beaches either way out of site
Pub at entrance & bus stops
Ccc or cmc all do rallies there if your a member

Done it 3 times, first time used c&mc sites in July before schools broke up, able to move from site to site every 2-3 days, started torquay to landsend and back up to st Ives, some sites only accept full week bookings hence c&mc flexibility, left the day schools broke up, what a shock. 2nd time September illfracombe to Newquay again stopping at all the small places, nightmare driving mh on narrow roads. 3rd time straight to Newquay for a cheep rally with a toad. Will do option 3 again less stressful.

Another vote for Trewethett farm CAMC club site. I just booked it for some time in June. Been there before and did the “Tango” You can’t pre book pitches and some are spectacular, hence people swapping if they can ,doing the Tintagel “tango”.
Everyone walks to the top of the site at dusk facing due West to see the greatest sunsets Imaginable.

Are you on Carnon Wollas?

Pentewan Sands... Brilliant site right on waters edge. All facilities are good. lovely pub 200 yards .walk into Mevagissy bus stop outside...no dogs but that won't bother you 😊

They are known as a very strict site so I am surprised that they have allowed visitors, indeed I understood they were closed.
They are the designated site in the South West during lockdown and allow full timers like ourselves

Mine’s another vote for Carnon Downs. An excellent site, and no one yet has offered a suggestion for car hire. We always use Cornwall Car Hire. First class firm with new cars, but the best thing is that they deliver the car to the site, and collect it when you leave, just leave the key at reception. I think you need to book for minimum 4 days, but that’s never a problem!

Very interesting, our infection rates have been going through the roof I put it down to the illegals arriving from Tier 4 over Christmas and some of the Uni students activity, however I did not realise that there were campsites allowed to accept transients too.

Another vote for Trewethett farm, nice coast walks from site to Tintagal or Boscastle, fantastic views. Just hope it’s not windy.

Possibly all the pirates returning home for Christmas pushed the Arr rate through the roof?!

The majority, like us, have been here since September, so not many, if any transients as you call us arriving over Christmas from a Tier 4 area.

transient

noun
plural noun: transients
  1. 1.
a person who is staying or working in a place for a short time only.

We visited Cornwall last summer and stayed at Mother Iveys Bay outside Padstow.
I would not recommend this site or revisit.
The location is lovely, set atop a cliff with views of the sea and it has access to a small clean sandy beach. There are plenty of walks from the site.
However, the site needs money spending on it to bring it anywhere near suitable for motorhome visits, given the daily price that they charge. (I paid £50 a night in the end)
Majority of pitches are sloping and all are on grass. There was no drive over waste and outside taps outside of the toilet blocks are in such a position that you’d block the lane for everyone trying to get past. The site is geared up for tents to be fair but also have statics.
It was the staff (including and especially the manager and owner) attitude that made our decision. The manner in which they spoke to some paying guests was nothing short of a disgrace. Just look at some of their replies to feedback on tripadvisor. Plus, they will charge you for your toad on top of their daily rate, even if it fits on your pitch.
We had a drive out and Padstow Touring looked nice, we drove through Sennen Coveand the area looked beautiful, but we didn’t visit the C&MC site. There is a site next door to Mother Iveys, but it was mostly statics.they have a touring field which the Camping Club use as a TH site.
As you’ve a car, you a not so much limited as to where you go site wise.
Cornwall is renowned for charging at every opportunity for parking your car though.
Personally, I’d stop at Devon and give them my pennies, but I’ve already visited Cornwall. Wherever you decide on though, I hope you have a great time.

I prefer the term full timers as that is what we are, not transients, and we are not spreaders of COVID either.

We have been ultra careful, limiting our movement, shopping locally and ensuring we abide by the govt advice.

FYI, CMC do not allow people from tier 4 to book onto a site in a lower tier area, so please don't suggest or imply that we brought this to Cornwall.
