cold water tap

i have plenty of water in the tank. The boiler is running and there is hot water. When i switch on the hot tap everyhing is fine. When i try the cold tap it either doesnt work at all, or works a few times only. When i run the shower into the sink at the same time, the cold tap goes back on. When i switch off the shower, the cold tap stops again.

Any ideas please?

Do you have micro switches in the taps (as opposed to normal domestic taps), if so then the shower is triggering the pump hence why your cold tap only works with it on.

Sounds like you have a bad contact/broken wire near the tap microswitch. It works in the hot position, but when you swivel it to cold, the wire loses contact. Can you hear if the pump is running or not, when the cold water isn't working as it should?

The microswitch usually comes with the wires already attached. Often the break is just where it enters the microswitch, so a complete new microswitch is required. If you're lucky the break might be further away, so you might be able to repair the wire.

thanks. If it was the micro switches in the taps, would the cold tap ever work? I dont always have the same problem? Thansk for replies

Yes, switches can become intermittent before failing totally.

The micro switch wire is probably broken and when it’s in cold position that’s when it would bent to open the break.
If your luck you will have enough wire from the switch to solder the joint.
