enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
This morning my wife tried to open the motorhome using the key fob, something she has done lots of times, so its not user error! It wouldnt open using the fob, so as a result of opening it with the keys and entering, it set the alarm off - perfect, just as it would. however the alarm will not respond to either of the key fobs, to either activate or deactivate it.

i resorted to using the pin number to turn the alarm off, so that at least the motorhome can now be driven, but has no alarm, other than me entering the pin number but that results in the alarm activating whenever we open the van -

i thought it might be an issue with batteries, so replaced the battery on the spare remote, but still no joy. it would seem strange that both remotes would stop working at the same time, but i tried the new battery in one of them anyway, i havent tried both as if one didnt work, why would the other and i dont want to lose any code programmed into them.

i spoke to Darren at Chelston motorhomes, who fitted the alarm and he says he has never known of this happening, but thinks both remotes are not communicating with the alarm system for some reason and has suggested having them reprogrammed - NOW the fun bit - we are in France in the Vendee area and cant seem to locate any nearby Cobra agents who can reprogramme the remotes or carry our some checks/repairs- i have searched for how to do it on line but the suggested procedure just doesnt work - and im sure i am following it properly.

has anyone experienced something similar who can offer assistance or knows of any Cobra agents/specialists within a few hours drive of Challans on the Vendee - i dont mnd driving as we can stop over en route !!

Thanks

Do you have the small fob you insert on the dash at all with your Cobra alarm?
If so...if you have gained access to the vehicle , you should be able to put the fob into its adaptor normally on the dash and disarm it that way

Have you tried moving to a different location? I remember seeing a motorhome towed away from Crystal Palace because the alarm/immobiliser would not disengage. The warden said the transmitter next door sometimes interfered and that it would probably start normally half a mile down the road. Perhaps you are getting some radio interference where you are parked. Possibly another camper with a mobile signal booster or other radio equipment is inadvertently blocking your signals.

We have certainly experienced radio interference with cobra alarm

When I had problems with our alarm I was told that the alarm battery was only charged from the alternator.

Press both buttons together on the remote untill the red light on the fob stays on, then press and hold the large button, the fob should then resync.

no, there is no additional fob, i have to disarm it using a pin code and press the button on the led in the dash itself a corresponding number of times to my pin number

thanks for the response

thanks canopus

if only i had something to re programme it - but even if i did, i think thats a bit above my pay grade LOL

I experienced a similar problem 2 weeks ago in France, albeit with a different alarm, for no apparent reason. I suspected battery initially, but this was not the case.
I was advised to move location, a few miles away and re-try.
I did this and everything worked as normal. No problems since.

just been and tried it, no luck ..... grrrrrrrrrrrr !!

at least i can set the alarm manually and disarm it manually - so its pretty secure and immobilised !!

If you have tried the re-sync before driving somewhere else you may need to do it again because if it was radio interference it may well have interfered with the synchronisation.

we arrived back in the UK on Tuesday from France, so yesterday i decided to try and sort out the alarm. i had tried all the suggestions re moving to a different location etc, to no avail, so was relying on manually setting it, which worked well. i used the 'lock' button at night to put the alarm on and tested it just to make sure the alarm would go off and it worked fine, so able to sleep soundly at night.
I had received the full instructions and photos on how to manually reset and recode everything from Chelston Motorhomes, so a big thank you to them. i decided to wait until we got home to so it though as i didnt want to 'cock it up' while in France.

so, yesterday, i set out to reinstate the alarm. i decided to have one last try at just operating it at a different location, as a few people had suggested (even though i did in France on 3 or 4 occasions with no luck) - - the bloody thing worked !!!!!

Word of advice, if you do have a Cobra alarm, make sure you have access to your pin number for arming/disarming just in case yours decides not to work at any time. it really is easy to manually arm and disarm !
