CMC Esso fuel card

Not a member but I can't remember the last time I saw an Esso garage.

I was tempted. Being cautious where online trading is concerned I carried out my usual searches.

The company behind this My Esso Card scheme is PK Fuel Limited (Company No. 11304793) incorporated on 11 April 2018. Information filed at Companies House is scant but it shows a Statement of Capital of GBP 1. There are Charges in favour of Barclays. So it either has debts or some kind of business banking facility involving a Charge to secure funding. Very common for SMEs.

The sole Director is Paul Coulson, Irish and an entrepreneur, DoB April 1952. He holds only this appointment according to Companies House, so no other directorships on file (at least of English companies). It is possible that this person is the Irish billionaire called Paul Coulson who google tells me is Chairman of Ardagh Group. But I can't be certain of that.

ESSO CARD is a registered Trade Mark unsurprisingly owned by Exxon Mobil Corporation of irving, Texas. Actually there are 2 such registrations at the EUIPO. This made me wonder if PK Fuel Limited has a licence to use this Trade Mark in its fuel card business. Hopefully this is in place.

Even though this offer is via the C&MC for its members, and I buy most of my diesel at the local Esso garage so it could save me up to £50 over a year, I am extremely reluctant to give my Debit Card details to a start-up company whose filings give an impression of it being a one-man-band with almost no capital, and no track record. I could not find any online reviews posted by customers.

Other Funsters may take up this offer. Let us know how it goes.

They seem to be offering to many clubs. Have a big advert and pushing this in the Porsche Club GB. I did contact them but decided not to bother after I realised it was a credit card type on weekly pay. They do not sell 98ron petrol so no good for car and no Esso stations near me

Thank you a very useful tip have just signed on and as we travel a lot we see a lot of Esso stations. Have spent over £150.00 at Esso stations in the last week.

Just seen this reply from the C&MC on their forum.

I've just checked with my colleague with regards to the debit card and have been advised that My Esso Card requires debit card details as part of the registration process in order to issue your My Esso Card. Once you have your My Esso Card you can pay for fuel using this card and the balance will be automatically taken from the debit card you used to register.

Please note My Esso Card and PK Fuel Limited do not store your bank details. All payments are managed by Braintree Payments Limited. Braintree Payments is a Level 1 PCI DSS compliant service provider meeting industry standards and guidelines. Braintree Payments Limited is also used by other well-known companies including Airbnb, Uber and many more. Learn more about their Data Security here.

Am I missing something.....just pay with your debit card, no third party fraud risk involved

No discount though!!!

However I guess you still have a chance of your card getting skimmed, personally we wont get one, not because of any fraud worries just do not use enough fuel to make it worthwhile.

OK, but to be honest, I'd rather pay a lot less for non branded supermarket fuel and get a decent 'discount'
I'm not anal about diesel.
Diesel is diesel to me and I've been using supermarket diesel for 30 odd year with no problems.
One long established garage, I worked there 45 years ago, is priced at £139.9, Morrison and Sainsbury is £134.9.... Sainsbury York is £124.9

If this company could offer a guaranteed discount of 6p per ltr I may consider it.

I nearly signed up for the offer on the CCC that gave you 8p off at shell stations in motorway services until I saw you had to pay an amount direct debit every month. Least the cmc offer they only take what you have spent.
