As we know, some (most?) threads eventually deviate from the original subject (often this can happen very quickly!).

Sometimes that's the fun part but...

Particularly when a thread is a simple question, and that thread has provided the necessary/relevant answers, the ongoing ramblings can be quite a distraction.

Is there any potential/merit in giving the thread originator some power to close off their own thread?

I guess they could ask Jim, but I'm sure he's busy enough as it is!

Post a thread and you can do what you like with it, covet it, take screenshots and share it with your friends. "See that, that's my thread".

However, once someone else has posted on it, it ceases to be yours and becomes public property. It will go where it goes, if people are enjoying themselves and having fun on the thread, it might be frustrating for some, but closing it is not really in the spirit of this place.

The internet is full of well manicured forums, where every thread is in the right place and strictly on topic. The only trouble is; no one visits them.

WELL the amount of rambling we do on here,....he would have a LOT of work to do lol.

There was a thread 2 weeks ago about a simple question regarding a 12volt toaster option. withiin 2 pages we started talking-debating about plasma levels and how fast electric waves or whatever could travel in space  brilliant.

To me this is just somewhere to talk about stuff if it goes to something else I either follow it or go somewhere else, and if as the op says, the question has been answered , there's no point in answering it again so go on to something else, no harm done.
And I know Jim doesn't like me mentioning this but I don't like this ignore thing which puts a blanket ban on folks so makes a nonsense of some threads when other people are answering something you don't know about, but that's what it is and can't do much about it.

He doesnt mean Ignore the persons posts Chaser...it just means ignoring the thread so you dont get notifications about it to read it etc. https://prnt.sc/rymKQXc64QsS

Got a good recipe for beer bread, tortoises walk slow and llamas spit , don't know what lamas is sorry. :drinks:
Here ya go Chas:
"Lamas" can refer to several different things. In Tibetan Buddhism, a lama is a spiritual leader, often a respected monk or priest. They can also be reincarnate lamas, like the Dalai Lama.

Apparently I must apologise , in fact llamas can be called lamas.

So who’s got some good baking recipes? I also want to talk about tortoises and llamas. No idea why, but it seems as good a place as any! 🤣😎🤪
We did a llama (well, alpaca but we got lumped with a llama) walking thing last year, got it for my birthday

I thought this would be about walking in the countryside 🤷‍♀️

I’m not sure if I rambled or just ambled into town but I’ve been to our lovely cottage Hospital the Yeatman and collected some hearing aid batteries for Nick, bought some more walking socks, strawberries from a green grocer and had a lovely chat with one of my old Receptionists.

Sherborne is lovely.

Great Idea! Should reduce some threads going off piste when posters know this could be a resulting action.
