Cleaning waste tank with cola

I'm always amazed at how people spend 20-90k on a motorhome then faff around trying to save a few quid by buying cheap coke for the waste tank and washing tablets for loo!

I buy the proper stuff for both and haven't had to declare bankruptcy and I ain't minted!!!
Because if you are like me you have spent all your money buying the MH , and need to be a tight git :D :D :D
P.s i think your post is gonna become the no.1 quoted post of the week <>

Fair comment though, I'm just off to tear up some newspaper to use as bog roll

Why dont you just use cooking Bi Carb we do, gets rid of the smell, and is more Hygienic than stale coke

If it was just about the smell and nothing else then maybe but it isn't.

Cola acts just like a chemical degreaser and cleaner. Bicarb doesn't.

I prefer the old newspaper from the chippy after the chips have been in them,, all that grease .....

Helps clean away the ink from the newspaper....

We used cola to unblock feeding tubes, in both the hospitals I worked in, had to be 'the real thing' though.

Follow the bicarbonate with white vinegar. Best drain cleaner you can get, all natural (but don't stick your head directly above it). These are pretty much the most used cleaning ingredients in our home. Vinegar is also a great natural weedkiller.

Washing tablets for the loo isn't about saving money (in my case anyway). I prefer the results which are no odour and an easier empty. I have a SOG fitted so in theory don't need any chemicals but life is easier with the bio sachets.

Just leave Grey waste valve open, clean air circulating NO smells,:reel:
I know you're fishing but ............ leaving the tank outlet open after emptying and only closing it before next use does keep the tank fresh. I'm not to fussed about minor dribbles caused by this practice.

Have seen info about this on here before, but am curious as to how long the cola should be driven around in the waste tank before draining out.

Many thanks.
Why can't one just use some diluted bleach ?

Best tell that to the tooth paste manufacture's then as lots use Barcarb in their cleaning ingredient:rolleyes:

Bicarb and vinegar is a great cleaning combo, we use it at home all the time.
I'm going to be using coke to clear the rust off the garden tools

It works well- but it is a hell of a job getting it back in the bottle again afterwards.

There is something cheaper you can use ...............just remember the coke get the exact of ya hand

Tried the coke as a tank cleaner did not work for us, The best results were when we used powdered Citric acid diluted leave it 24hrs and flush.
