Checklist

Just planning our get away to the sun for a couple of months in 2 weeks time.
Have a check list for the van , what to take , what to remember to do before setting off etc. but to be fair it comes pretty naturally once you have a routine. (You watch- will forget something now!)
We have done several trips abroad but this will be the longest so far (3 Months)
Does anyone have a checklist for leaving the house for that length of time? Have thought of leaving central heating on low, informed bank, family coming and checking house/mail once a week. Anything else we should consider? Thanks

House insurance validity? If unoccupied for more than ?? days, you may not be insured.

Assuming you live in a conventionally designed and plumbed house I would leave the attic hatch open. It will allow some warm air into the roof and help stop pipes freezing.

Put some bleach down each plughole/toilet bowl to stop "drain wiff"

Check with your insurance on the house what us covered. And Check you have valid tax, mot and insurance for period you are going for.

Thanks for replies. I am the wife so will remember to take hubby !:
House insurance , van documents all sorted. Ordered prescriptions. Plenty of family live near so sure house will b e fine. Prob just me. Like lists and there doesnt seem to be much on it !

Lotions and potions.. fishing gear, T bags, gas, bikes, chairs, spare EHU cable, glasses, music, quality toilet rolls, ACSI book.. The list is endless.. We have a list on the computer which I print off prior to each trip, with a tick box next to each thing.... Then you don't have to walk around worrying for days... Not so critical for short trips, but several months is a different matter.. Good luck and enjoy your trip.. Mitch.

iPads
Kindles
Laptop
All the charging leads
3 x GPS units
Switch of data roaming on the fone ( stops all the unwanted updates happening until you are on wifi )
Spare set of keys
tea bags
BAKED BEANS !! ( very hard to get in a lot of places )

• SORN the car
• Turn off the water
• We get KeepSafe from the Post Office (& assume there's nothing that can't wait till we get back)
• Just before you leave, send in Solar Panel reading for your FIT payment if you have panels on the house
• Also if you have house SP's - check they're still collecting last thing before you leave - ours for some unknown reason tripped out just after I left so we lost out for a few weeks
