If you have a new Compactline with the small oven/grill below the worktop it is probably worth checking whether there is some form of heat shield to protect the cutlery drawer. Whilst grilling toast recently the trim on the bottom of our cutlery drawer melted, curled up and then dropped off. Yesterday I raised the problem with our dealer.

Within 24 hours I have received an email from the dealer saying Carthago are sending them the parts for a “grill rework” and they will need the motorhome for 4 or 5 days to do the job. Meanwhile they suggest we avoid using the grill. The oven/grill in this position is a new option for the UK market and I do not know whether ours is an isolated construction mistake or a more general problem.

You don't live anywhere near Vipar do you, seen what he has done with LED lights, very imaginative.

Mmm, 4/5 day's to sort out, sounds like they might be fitting a new kitchen for that amount of time. All the best though Pausim, will be interesting to hear what they have done and especially if it works without any other issues for you.

Merry Xmas.

Sadly not near enough but doing something imaginative with LEDs sounds fun.

It does sound a bit of a rebuild, they said it was not difficult just time consuming.

Christmas Greetings.

Hmm?. Our previous Rapido had a Pull out deflector at the front /top of the oven housing to deflect heat from the Work-surface above?. It sounds to me as if the Oven is insufficiently insulated from the adjacent Panelling

I fitted a grill in my Carthago and soon realised that as you have to leave the door open in use, the draw above would get heat damaged. I bought some aluminium plate from Wickes and made a heat shield which I fitted between the grill and the draw. I also found out that there was a lot of heat building up under the sink. I bought a powerful 12 volt PC fan and fitted it in the external wall in line with the sink and fitted a switch.
It now all works as it should!

The smev oven in our Hymer has a heat shield in the top that pulls out when grill is used.

How many years have these people been building motorhomes??
Totally unacceptable and very dangerous.
This brand is slowly going down the pan with quality and workmanship.
I have one and it's not really a quality build.

I am very happy with the general quality and workmanship but this hazard should have been avoided. I think ovens and grills in motorhomes are new to some Continental manufacturers.

We've had ovens and grills fitted to Hymers and Dethleffs since 1991. All down to the build ethic.

I have agas oven in our apartment that came with a heat shield you have to use when using the grille. Or the knobs melt.

When you look at what Dazzlin achieved in a week you realise how pathetic and godawful the dealer is in quoting 4 days to carry out a 20 minute fix !

It sounds a bit more than a 20 minute fix and I would much rather give them the time to do the job properly than have them rush it. I am guessing that the work itself will take only a few hours but that they are allowing for the unforeseen. It makes little difference to me whether I drop it off for 1 day or 1 week.

An update from the dealer. The problem is not seen as widespread and there is no suggestion of a recall. The dealer has met the problem once before but not on a Carthago. They plan to remove the oven/grill, create an insulated enclosure and fit a 12V extractor fan and vent. Carthago has approved the work with the materials being sourced locally, meaning there will be little delay. Meanwhile it is ok to use the oven but not the grill. I am very happy with the speedy response from both the dealer and Carthago.
