Car Port for Motorhome (1 Viewer)

Hi all

Surfing the net has one does I came across this image and have since looked at prices for similar structures and im curious has to whether anyone has one they use and any comments you may have has to whether its a worthwhile structure or not e.g does it offer enough protection to the roof etc

If I had room I would have one they look OK to me and you could if you wanted clad the sides for even more protection.

It'll keep tree sap off the roof but that's about all.
Rarely does rain fall straight down, likewise for snow.
My car is in a carport directly under a very large fir tree and still get the odd blob of sap on the bonnet and tailgate and it gets just as dusty as if it was uncovered.

Looks good to me I suppose for winter you could design some sort of drop down tarpaulin type cover for the sides, that ties/rolls up in summer.

with the concrete base and foundations for the upright beams, this may need planning permission dependant on local rules. A large, but simple shed, as used for tractors would be classed as a temporary structure

As to is a carport or motorhome canopy of any beneficial use? I think the jury is out on that one. Without sides, the vehicle is still exposed to all weather. And any solar panels would not work unless the roof was clear glass

Shelters like that are common in the Middle East and are for keeping the sun off the vehicle. I guess you could get one made here if you went to some steel fabricators.

I like the ones we’ve seen in France, a solid roof with fine mesh on the sides, keeps most of the weather off but allows everything to ‘breath’ so doesn’t stay damp and produce mould!

It looks nice structure, but like others have said, great in hot countries to keep the vehicle in the shade, but little use with the weather you get in this country, plus it will be a magnet for nesting birds.

I agree breathability is definitely a good thing. Usually the rain drives in from one direction ( west for us) so a bit of extra cover on that side only.

Sorry no plans to see as I winged it when building it ,all the materials were recycled stuff from various businesses on the farm where I work . The uprights were electric poles laying under a hedge on another farm

Yeh, half the neighbourhood lost their phone connection when you sawed the telegraph poles down!

This works well for me.
The sloping ground allowed me to have a lower floor in the "carport" to take the van's height. There is a staircase to the boarded attic where the motorhome clobber is stored.

Well spotted. It is a 1938 BSA Scout 6c which was the rare 4 seater version.
Sadly I no longer have the time to play with it so it has sat in the garage for the last 12 months or more.
Sensibly I should pass it on to someone with more time and energy.

Fairly common place across many European countries that suffer from either high amounts of sun (probably not the UK...) and or hail damage risk as we do here. I see many in Italy for the hail protection
