Trying to book an MOT for our 7.5 mtr , 4500kg, tax axle motorhome but so far can't find anyone in our area that can do it! the usual chap who has done it for years has gone out of business.
Post code co12 near Colchester or Ipswich , anyone know of somewhere fairly near to us?

If the local council depot do MOTs they are obliged to offer the service to the public.
The have capacity for large trucks so 7.5mtr is a little one to them.
Only drawback, they charge full price.

thanks. will give the Ipswich place a ring tomorrow as they are nearest.
The problem we're having is because it's a TAG Axle it needs to be either a pit or a purpose built ramp as it doesn't fit on a standard ramp.

I had my tag axle MOT’d today up in sunny Norfolk. Probably a bit far for you but you could make a day out of it with a walk in the forest. (y)

Coincidentally, what did you do for a living when you were in business?;)

Try your local commercial vehicle MOT testing garage as a lot of these will work on Fiat chassis and goods vehicles

Fire service workshops at Lexden used to do my father in law's (a few years ago though) not sure if they still do outside work, you could always call in and see? Failing that, we take ours to Walton on the Naze - The MOT place I think it's called

Norfolk Trucks near Claydon on the A14. Just booked ours in for Monday. Big yard so nice and easy to park etc. Tel 01473 834200 ask for Daren service department. Remember to tell them its a Class 4 motorhome.

we've been to Fire Brigade workshops in colchester previously but they don't do it anymore. Looked at the Walton one & looks not enough height - is yours a tag?

No it's single axle, but they had my previous one on the ramp in the air last year, so height shouldn't be an issue. The owner has his own motorhome so is motorhome friendly'

I know its a mission but if all else fails, https://themotmate.co.uk down at Rochford does tags. In fact I was their 1st MH on day 2 who they opened back in 2012 with my old Swift Kontiki. Good luck

We've just got home from being away a week (not in the van) so busy this morning but Tony will be going down the Rugby club this afternoon to watch the rugby match and then the International on TV. There are 2 teams at home, a hockey match & lunch + the Internationals on TV so be warned it will be busy :giggle: I will be going down about 5-5:30 (I have to sort my parents out today having been away for a week!) . You're more than welcome to join us. If anyone asks just mention you're a guest of Tony. The rugby club is on the seafront where the boating lake, skating rink etc is -it's behind the swimming pool building but wouldn't suggest you drive up there as car park will be packed - best park on the seafront & walk there. If you like walking then you could walk along the promenade to get to it , it's about a mile from where you are.

Thanks for all your help. Motorhome now booked in at Ipswich ATF station for Wednesday. now just 🤞

That’s what we have just been told as well. But we’re be under 3500 kgs so our local garage will be doing it and from now on and all the maintenance and repairs.
