Well, not strictly true. I've found one or two. But there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice. Any experienced tourers have any suggestions? I don't really want to get involved in chariot wars inside Paris. Was looking for something on a railway line not too far out. Maybe a 30 minute train ride to central Paris.

We couldn’t find anywhere suitable so stayed at Camping Paris Beau Village.
10mins walk to the train station with very frequent trains Into Paris.

The camp site was a little cramped but as we were only there to sleep it didn’t really bother us.

We've been this route, and concluded more or less the same. There are some place where you could park, and nobody would make a fuss, but we're Brits, and don't do that sort of thing, right? Last time I looked for aires they all seemed fairly undesirable.

In the end we used Camping de Paris, and swallowed the fact that you have to pay. It is just outside the Periphique so there is no issue with emissions, charges, and traffic. There is a bus service across the road in the Bois, and they operate a shuttle bus to the Porte Maillot transport interchange (with the RER straight to the centre) during the warmer months. We have been there several times, both in the winter (6 Nations) and other times (just because we like it). Across the bridge in Suresnes is a good market. We don't care for Campsites normally, but on a practical level it suits us well.

I know you didn't ask about campsites, but I think you'll be hard pushed to find an aire that meets your spec. If you do, would you let me know?

Park up at Place de la Concorde and I'm sure the Gendarmes will escort you to a nice central Paris location for the night! :roflmto:

The Bloggers Jason and Julie, look up Ourtour, did a good write up on Paris a few years ago. They stayed on an aire and got about on public transport. Goos write up and intersting read

It's possible to overnight at Disneyland Paris for a reasonable cost (been a few years so don't know current). Train direct to centre from there, about half an hour.

We were in Paris on the penultimate day of the Tour De France a few years ago. Many, many large buses/Team Motorhomes parked on narrow streets, wheels on the pavements, taking up car parks, thought we might change our decals one year and sneak in with them, maybe with Julian A La Philippe written on the side?

You jest I know but we once parked illegally by mistake in Bordeaux through an open gate trying to get our heads right. A Gendarme approached us and asked what we were doing, in English, we explained, he said this is the police car park but you can stay here for the day and explore our city. I will tell the desk.
Gobsmacked from Bury St Edmunds.

I remember in 1966 my mum, dad and us three kids drove from home to Torremolinos. We slept in the car for 4 nights on the way down, and I can remember waking up to my mum brewing a kettle on the thermos stove and making corned beef baguettes. Nothing unusual I hear you say, but it was here…..

Right on the road, outside the main gates of the Pasteur Institute in Central Paris!

We were left in peace, and carried on after eating, on a tortuous journey through France, over the Pyrenees, and all the way down to the Costa del Sol. Can’t remember what car it was, but the back seat certainly wasn’t big enough for three kids of 13, 11 and 8 - and it was in the day when both parents smoked with impunity!

It’s a wonder I'm not more damaged than I am!

acropolis22 - https://www.campingchampigny.paris/

We stayed there a few years ago. You can get a discounted travel ticket into Paris from reception.

Sorry for not including it in my earlier post - I can only give trauma at reliving the experience as an excuse!

Thanks to all for your contributions. Even the leg pulls......

At least I now know the lack of aires is not down to my faulty search skills.
