Hi, can anybody recommend a site that is just outside the M25 with close/easy access to transport, trains preferably where I can get into central London. Taking the van into London is not an option due to the restrictions on emissions charges.any info appreciated

There is the C&CC site at Chertsey.

Nice site. I think the station is about a mile from the site but you would need to check that.

I am 99% sure its outside the LEZ.

Crystal Palace Caravan & Motorhome Club Site. Expensive, good and with really good transport links.

Assuming that you're coming from Devon, I'd be tempted to use CCC Chertsey. Taxi to the station (to Waterloo/Victoria) WAS Ā£5 about 4y ago (fixed rate: ask at site or see if it's mentioned online) and the site is nicely situated on the river-bank.

Unfortunately, I got back to the station at 5pm and hadn't booked a taxi: "best we can do is 90 minutes". So I walked and it's a bit of a hike through the shops then along a main road. There must be a bus service but I didn't want to rely on it being on time, especially at rush-hour.

IF I had total freedom of choice I would go with CC Crystal Palace, for ease of access to central London (bus from the gates or train to Victoria/Waterloo or change at Clapham Junction for Overground via Olympia etc). However, I usually go for CC Abbey Woods as we like the landscaping but that involves a slightly uphill return walk after catching trains from Charing Cross/Waterloo or Cannon Street.

We have used CC Commons Wood at Hatfield but it's a walk to the bus stop then a moderately expensive/longish train trip to King's Cross, although we were told we could use our OAP bus pass all the way to Victoria on a special coach. Taxi back from Hatfield at midnight was approx Ā£10 (6y ago).

Another vote for Chertsey. You'll get a better train service from Slough which isn't too far away by car and last week all day parking was Ā£6.

Chertsey or Crystal Palace, we've also used Welwyn Garden City. Chertsey it's a little over a mile to the station as is Welwyn Garden City. Crystal Palace it's the bus to Brixton then the tube. They are all fine.

There's a reasonable priced site at Theydon Bois. Used it a few times and not far to the Central Line.

Abbey Wood CMC site is great and only a few minutes walk from the railway station, from where you can can catch frequent trains into central London. It's just inside the M25 but I don't think it's inside the LEZ, although obviously you should check.

Yes, that's the problem we found. We stayed at Henlow Bridge Lakes near Bedford - 5 minute walk from there to the train station, an easy trip from there direct into Kings Cross.

The site itself is good but not really to our tastes, but it depends what you like - it's very large and very well ran and organised, but too formal for us. As a base for going into London though it was great.

Hi. I used Wyatts Covert Tile House Lane Denham Uxbridge UB95DH. 01895 832729.
It's a CMC site just inside the M25 but outside the LEZ. It's close to Denham overground and the local taxi firm at the station are excellent. Charged Ā£5 for four of us to station. Charged Ā£30 to Windsor for 4of us. Cheaper than the bus.
Hope this helps

I second @MikeandKath. Wyatts Covert, half hour walk to Denham Station but then good 20/35 minute rail connection to Marylebone.

Don't think C&CC Hertford has been mentioned yet. Its a very large site and a 15 minute walk down to Hertford East railway station, or Hertford North a little further. Nice town with lots of eateries, shops etc.

Great tips here! Any free wild camping locations, like at a lay by?

I think youā€™re be in competition with the trucks for a lay-by as they park overnight waiting to get in to London in the morning. I think they are allowed in 7am if they are not exempt.

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
Theobalds Park, Bulls Cross Ride, Waltham Cross EN7 5HS.

The Pied Bull a sort walk is good for food, about 30 mins walk to Turkey Street overground train station, you can go all the way to Liverpool Street about 37 mins or change at Severn Sister 15 mins. to the Tube Victoria Line.
