Any news as to when they are expected to open - given that just about everything else has or will be in a few weeks ?

No news. Holidays haven't had a mention from Boris today.

July 4 is a date that’s been in the papers, subject to certain conditions being met.

For anyone that has one of those, "All singing and dancing" TV's, we were told on our local (BBC South West) news programmes that tomorrow night during their programme which starts at 6.30pm, they are going have a piece re travel and tourism as it affects the "Pointy Bit"

Tonight they visited two camp sites where both of the owners were putting up barriers before they had been made, one of them 'worried' whether a customer could stand at a sink while someone else would use either the toilet or shower cubicle.

Later in the programme it had been pointed out by a viewer that caravans and motorhomes don't need to use those facilities and the site, right from the off could be run without social distancing problems.

They're talking about pubs opening earlier than expected, that will be the last step of lockdown. I can't really see why campsites aren't open now, even when using the showers, surely you're still "dissolving" the virus as you shower. With the track and trace up and running, and local lockdowns, surely everything will be back to almost normal?

The use of Motorhomes and Caravans with their own facilities. Has been in IMV a No Brainer? from Day one!. The issue has been, and remains the "Jelousy Factor" On the part of the ignorant.

If initially the toilet blocks were closed and just like Aires, you only use your own facilities plus water and a chemical waste point. Queue to empty the cassette? We do that now, often giving more than two meters gap. The same with water.

It's not just about hygiene on the sites, people who live in places like Cornwall don't want an influx of tourists, potentially bringing the virus with them.

At some point if they want to keep their local economy going they are going to have to put up with the tourists.

I can’t imagine campsites in Wales opening in the very near future, we are on very strict lockdown still, not allowed to travel only locally for essentials, and still North Wales has the highest number of cases today, apparently we are reaching the peak now.

At some point if they want to keep their local economy going they are going to have to put up with the tourists.

Under normal circumstances they welcome tourists as they rely on the revenue but I guess they feel a bit anxious about seeing a big influx of people at present.

The virus is still very much around, so perhaps we'll be more welcome when the R value is lower.

They may prefer to stay healthy and not have their elderly or fragile relatives dead...
Where I live there have been no new infections this past week so forgive me if I seem hostile towards visitors at this time but STAY AWAY.
I like being able to breathe...

The virus is disappearing so fast, it’s supposedly putting vaccine trials at risk and they can’t unlock fast enough 👍

Oh Please!.... where did you dream that up from? Sounds like a Donald Trump tweet.

I was on a campsite on the Costa del Fortune from NYE ti'll we got thrown off in March. Well before the virus was prevalent I think I was the only one leaving the toilet block with the door latched open. I propped it open when I entered, and the number of folk who flicked it shut, while I was washing my hands amazed me.

When I pointed out I'd propped it open to avoid handling it on exit, they were oblivious to the potential.

I won't be going on campsites this coming winter.

One of our nurses has just passed away with it so it's not gone by far, and I've got 2 daughters ,2 granddaughters on frontline

It may sound like a DT (fake news tweet) but it probably isnt that far away from the truth. Vaccines arent ready yet and they need about 60,000 people (i think) to trial them with 50 per cent placebo and they are on about 8,000 (probably over estimate) a day. They are only getting 1500 positives a day. Even if it didnt decrease (which it is atm) that is 20 days if everyone signs up to it.

I've booked a campsite in Wales for mid July, they said they expect to open on 4th July. That could all change of course but at least I've got something in the diary to look forward to.
Morris Leisure seem to have given up on 2020 altogether, their website says they won't open until 2021 :Eeek:
Edit : just looked again at Morris Leisure, they updated website today, still doesn't say when they are opening and not taking bookings

Well in my local southwest news local campsite owners say their guidline date to re open is 4th off july although some motorhomers and campervan ones think they do wat they want an rules about sleeping in their vans instead off returning home dont apply to them as we had 4 sleep overnight here in dartmouth over this bank holiday weekend as their numbers an pictures off their vans been taken by paper here an also reported to police which sadly they have annoyed the residence here and they give true responsible friendly motorhomers a bad name

With there being a shortage of places to go this year i wonder if rally fields will be open up for genrile camping probably with a 8m rule between units so every one and there family can have enough room to social distance there won't be enough campsites this year.
Looking at the amount of camping stuff getting tried out in garden's around us and caravan request on selling pages folks wanting to buy vans any vans any condition worrying.
i have seen two old caravan's appear in driveways and seem to be going through a bit of a tart up ready for holidays
so this summer could be interesting on the roads to say the least

Saying it is so doesn't make it so. Is there a source?

If the community transmission isn’t at a point where enough people will get infected, a standard vaccine trial simply won’t work.

You then need a trial where you deliberately infect people. This has a whole raft of ethical issues to overcome.

So yes, I agree, it sounds Trumpian but it is actually true.

It is true, apparently there is a shortage of CV 19 cases in the community and this is causing real problems and delays for the vaccine testing program.
Can't remember his name but he was one of the expert scientists interviewed on radio 4.

I have seen this quote somewhere before:
'When you're dead, you don't know it, but others have to deal with it. Stupidity is the same'

I heard that statement from an expert being interviewed on TV in the last couple of days.

I heard a scientist on the radio yesterday that was considering using volunteers to become infected in order to have enough subjects for the trials.

More than 2 metres in most queues as dont fancy a whiff of a weeks worth of camping food :sick::sick::sick:o_O
