Tried to book here for a one night stopover as per usual , no availability for one night the Saturday, but if I book the Friday Saturday they have availability???? so booked our one night at the Green frog next to Moffat CCCS, £14 with hook up ,toilet and shower , we walked through the site to get to the town and counted 18 empty spaces on the Sat night , disgusted with the CCC been a member for 14 years time , oh and 3 other members couldn't get one night either ,they also got booked into the Green Frog .

Green Frog is a great little stop over..got a cafe ‘n all 👍

We were loyal members for many years but found the greed crept in so we left them. Now prefer to give our business to small sites and pub stopovers. Unfortunately the UK is top of the rip off tree. We had booked trips in May/June around Wales and Norfolk but after the site prices increased it is cheaper to spend 6 weeks in France, we sail early May.

Exactly what l do . I will spend as little time in the UK and on UK sites as I can get away with .

Thanks for that, the last time we stayed at Moffat we paid over 20 quid as non members and that was 4or5 years ago. Made a note of green frog

Prices and options will never change in the UK until the big companies that masquerade as 'Clubs' disappear and that won't happen until folks stop paying their subscriptions. i.e. it will never happen!

Didn’t they say the same about electric companies, then when there was a lot more small companies they started going bust ?

Very different scenario. Electricity retail price is controlled so any company selling it were only trying to undercut the big boys.

Independent campsites are masters of their own destiny.

I'm told, it might be wrong, that most of the 2 night minimum sites are privately owned by run by CCC? Not helpful I know but at least an explanation?

Ah it doesn’t fit with what you’re thinking then

The bubble is going to burst this year after last years profiteering and exploitation with campsite fees. Ports, tunnel and airports now at pre pandemic levels making one wonder how many MH´s are sat on the driveway with owners wondering why they had a knee jerk purchase last year. The wonderlust of owning a MH paying through the nose for such only to become a costly staycation with site fees will be a wake up call for some when they compare winging off on packaged holidays to sunnier climes. Buy in haste, repent in leisure. If the Green Frog can offer such facilities at such a reasonable why can´t others. The quicker we have continental style aires or Green Frogs here the better. Hope this will be a wake up call to the campsite owners knowing they have overpriced themselves out of the market and rightly so.

Currently travelling in Spain we spent last night on a free Aire at Segovia. Provided purely for motorhomes it came with free grey water and toilet disposal, though no fresh water provision. Easy walk into the beautiful old town.

We forgot that it is Easter holiday period so found it almost impossible to find empty spaces on campsites. In two days time we will use another free Aire for two nights, also with free grey and black disposal, on the edge of another pretty Spanish town. Other than that we are quite prepared to pay for sites.

It does show, however, how much better motorhomes are appreciated on mainland Europe. French, Spanish, Italian and German towns are keen to provide facilities as m/h’s spend in the locality even if it is just bread, fuel or food and drink. British towns tend to regard m/h’s as bringing everything with them and spending nothing.

The big clubs in the U.K. are no longer member led organisations but big business, interested in profit.

That’s because Uk motorhome don’t spend and do want everything for nothing, only have to look at the amount of posters going on about how cheap they can get something and if it’s not free it’s a rip off. Yes you only have yourselves to blame.

You missed it, there is fresh water there you have to lift a metal flap on the pavement.

That's a load of tosh, only been in Spain 3/4 days already eaten out twice. Wouldn't have done that if we had to pay stupid UK prices.

If some muppet came up with an idea for one around here I would just show them all the posts on here about rip off and how cheap they can get it, yes your one of them

Not getting personal, sorry if you feel like that. Only going by a post you said how you got to spain with out spending any money. So yes I would oppose my council tax providing free holidays for people with more money then me. Think that’s fair.

You are right, I missed it!

Damn, obviously I’m not perfect, as my other half keeps reminding me.

That makes it even better provision. Now, where can I find that in the U.K.?

Don’t count me in that comment of yours. We spend in any area we visit. We like to eat out and sample “local delicacies “. It’s one of the pleasures of travel.

Yes but what good is that to me as the council tax payer paying for your holiday. I am only interested in what is in it for me not constantly paying for everyone else. Simple as that.

If you don't like me stopping on free Aires I'm not forcing you to read my posts.

If what you are saying is you would object to councils providing Aires for Motorhomes I bet you don't object to them providing car parks for cars.

As a Jock living in Wales I like to try and go home to the Highlands once or twice a year. We used to always use Moffat as the perfect stop over going either way. We let our CCC membership lapse last year as a result of their policy change. If you've only got a weeks holiday from work you simply can't afford the luxury of stopping two nights going either way to break the journey.
Never knew about Green Frog, we've been carrying on to Strathclyde Country Park, a well kept site if you don't mind the traffic noise. Will certainly check out the Green Frog. Thanks (y)

Just had a week away ,our first night at green frog around £30 cheaper for us than C&CC and for the first time in 10 yrs caravan/motorhoming haven’t used a club site due to their costs used CL/CS and private sites for our holiday all club sites at least £10/15 more per night

we didn't renew our c/c/club membership because they stopped having Spanish winter rally but c/mh/club do
