We have had a coach built MH for several years always with sat dish. We are likely going to downsize to 6.3 panel van is satellite TV an option I guess with a dome or are there now better options like streaming. We do travel in the north of France and Benelux countries.

It's been brought up a few times on here and I'd say at the moment it is probably about 50/50 between satellites and streaming.

There will be places where you don't get 4/5G so can't stream but there will be places where you can't get a sat signal either so in my view it really comes down to how much data per month you can squeeze out of your network company.

Firestick is a really good device to use for tv with slick access to iplayer/ITV hub etc plus it can also be used to watch endless amounts of films and TV shows.

We’ve got an Avtex camping telly with a satellite decoder built in and I bought a cheap satellite dish kit from amazon.
I fix it to the cycle carrier or front tow eye.
Dish align an iOS app shows you where to point the dish.
I can get it set up in about 5mins.
I am thinking of getting an amazon fire stick, though I have used my Apple TV in the van running off my iPhone hotspot.

We have a SatFi dome and used it a lot of the time for the grandchildren as we had Sky, then used the tv sat tuner. Now we use our MiFi coupled with an external aerial and either a Fire Stick or a Now tv dongle. Wouldn’t ever get sat again and you can get a fantastic set up and soooo much data for the price of a satellite system.

With the fire stick do you get live tv all the mainstream channels or is it just catchup and bbc iPlayer

Oyster Cytrac doesn’t take up much roof space and works well down into central France

We’re near Narbonne, Oyster 85 cm Vision 3 with auto skew. Watching via a Crypto box Astra 2 no loss of channels. Can also use intellesat 907 as a back up

To be perfectly honest I cannot remember it has been soooo long since we’ve used it or even been in the MH. It is still in lockdown and no access. ☹️☹️ I think we used it primarily for box sets and catchup tv. Now tv has live tv and catch up. That’s all we use at home now since we binned Sky. Now has all of the sky channels we used to watch.

iplayer, ITV hub and C4 all have live tv feature. Not sure about C5.

Now you can get other apps loaded on to your firestick that will provide practically any live TV channel. Not entirely legal though.

Will it work with Wi-fi abroad on campsites or will it be blocked because your out of the UK and attempting to watch BBC and ITV

The official apps (iplayer ITV hub etc) wont work unless you use a VPN. The unofficial and slightly illegal apps will work where ever.

Are VPNs free or do you have to pay for them as well
You get free ones and some you need to pay for. I always used IPVanish for about £8 a month but others have recommended other free ones.

If your data card source, phone or mifi, is UK based you can get English TV stations on a Firestick without needing a VPN, if you try to tether to campsite wi-fi abroad it will be blocked. If you have Android tablets or iPad to tether to your data you can also watch English television using the UKTV app which streams from Filmon free. You can also receive English radio stations on phones or tablets while travelling. I do all this.

If you are out of the UK for any length of time then you will probably not have enough roaming data to last so sat is still the best way

No problems with this as most phone contracts renew data bundles on a monthly basis. We have never run out of data on extended winter breaks abroad.

Our personal best was to run out after 2 days in France!, luckily the suppliers (Giffgaff) felt sorry for us and allowed us to start the next month data bundle early

I'm waiting to board at Dover with a Superdrug unlimited SIM so I'll see whether it really is unlimited roaming over the coming days/weeks

Been dizzy with small print but every
one I looked at had the roaming limit buried in there - not found it yet for Superdrug but seems to good to be true tbh

Most streaming services have settings that allow you to adjust data usage and you won't notice the quality reduction, 25gb would get you up to 40 hours of TV each month more than enough for the 6 nations. We are with BT, get 80gb monthly and do not have limited roaming and we always listen to Popmaster on the radio when travelling.
