Decided to have the belt and water pump changed (getting to old for DIY now) best quote was £420 But guess what something went wrong , they could not remove the fuel pump from the water pump housing as it had seized in, sounds like they used brute force to remove it (quote we damaged to knocking it out), So new pump end plate/seal and extra labour now £544 . Still better than the £700 odd prices some quoted. But in my day if a fitter damaged a part the customer was not expected to pay for it, your thoughts?.

Tricky one of siezed.

We work on the old principle, if we damage it we pay for it.

But, even with mercedes, everything is trial and error.

When we had a problem with our gearbox. We were told it might/May/could be one of three things. They wanted a £1,000 a time until they got it right. But they should know and quoted. Not estiguestimate

2014 130, assume is the year and model, sounds the same as mine. Can I ask why you needed belt and water pump changed (only asking as it has never even occurred to me to do so after 3 years or so)

When I have changed timing belts or chains I would automatically change the water pump while you have the front of the engine stripped down .

Why not propose they meet you halfway on the additional cost. Price for job sounds reasonable.

Yes but in this model the pump is a large casting with the fuel pump mounted through it.

46,000 is not high milage for a diesel engine. I would have though 70,000 or 5 years which ever comes first. Still, it's done now, end of.

As you say, done now. Mines only at 33k so no need to worry for a bit (37k more by the sound of it), at least the post made me think about it.
