Eventually even the last two remaining islands, Ireland and Cyprus will join Schengen.

Cyprus will keep the border to the north closed for the foreseeable future (next 50-100 years maybe)

Ireland however will be in an interesting situation.
Much the same as the border between the US and Canada.

They can't join Schengen with the border as it is.

. Maybe if (when?) there is a united Ireland.

How many British motorhomers actually go to Bulgaria and Romania? Seems pretty unimportant to almost everyone whether they are in Schengen or not. Ireland would probably be in by now if it wasn't for the NI border so as soon as NI becomes part of Ireland they will be

While ever the Irish Republic remains part of the Common Travel Area (CTA) with the UK I don't see how it could practically, legally or logistically become part of Schengen.
