I have seen references to people having brought something as in purchasing, I always thought that was bought, I though brought was when someone brought something over to you, I’m no spelling police but have I actually missed something going on, as to me it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Oh and it’s not just on the forum I hear it elsewhere as well. Thanks

One of my pet hates too, see brought being used as bought all the time. I don't get it but I just have a chuckle to myself and don't stress over it.

Language is not owned does it really matter.....

What about when someone in a shop or bar says can I get a coffee or drink, no you can't the person behind the counter will get it for you.
That winds we up as well, wtf is going in!

Yes because it makes people sound like ignorameces (is that a word ?)

we don't challenge spelling or grammatical errors on this forum

some folk find it hard to reed or right, but you can usually understand what is meant

I have one or two pet hates in this arena, here are just a few:
Of instead of have, as in " I should of thought that..."
Where instead of were - "we where thinking about....."
And the ubiquitous lottery of their, there and they're.
I have finally come to the conclusion though, that in the words of my favourite Disney princess; I just need to "let it go".

I agree. Sadly even my son with a brain the size of a planet and qualifications far better than anything I achieved says that. I just wish the server would reply “No you can’t get it, sit down and I will get it for you”. I guess American English is creeping into our language and old farts like me will just have to put up with it.

If nobody questions these idiotic sayings then we will end up in a more confused life, too many people just let it go, it’s about time they were told they sound plain stupid, it makes absolutely no sense at all. I always tell people they sound stupid and what exactly do they mean, when they think about it they say oh yeh your right, must just be in zombie mode like when their heads are embedded in their phones.

You could search for all the posts that make the error on MHfun and do it if you feel that strongly about it!

I’m no spelling police as I said, just interested why it’s happening and from replies I’m not the only one. Maybe if we all told people who say daft stuff they sound like d..ks it may actually make a difference, too many people don’t pull them up and it spreads like a thick disease. There is a big differences in getting the odd word spelt wrong to actually talking utter bo!!ox! ?

I first noticed this 25 years ago when my young apprentice used to say it. I did exactly the same and said to him "he'll get it you matey" ?
