we are sitting on an site in France at the start of a 10 week trip to Spain and a worker cutting the grass flicked up a stone and smashed a side window on our Rapidio it is double glazed and only the outside glass is broken. I have phoned insurance and a french company is supposed to contact me but no joy yet . Is it possible to clear the smashed glass and move on and get it fixed at home as I say we are at the start of a 10 week trip

No reason why you can't clear all the glass away, it might leave it a bit raggy and sharp around the edge but you should be able to tidy it up OK.

Mine’s only single glazed...

Is it water tight? Secure?

Might pay to call insurance to get the all clear...

As your in France would it be worth contacting Rapido directly.
You never know they may be able to sort something.

Getting Better
Clear as much glass as you can safely and put some gaffer/duck tape around the edges to protect.....

It might look naff but best to be safe ...(y)

Bit like broken Hymer headlight, put some clear plastic sticky sheet over it to hold the bits and still see SOMETHING until it is fixed properly.

Why are you using your insurance company to sort it? It's down to the site owner as it was his employee who damaged it with the stone whilst cutting the grass.

In our caravanning days were on a CL on a very windy day, we came back from a bike ride and a big piece of glass had come out of their greenhouse roof a smashed over the side of our van puncturing the skin, cut a lot story short their insurance wouldn’t pay as they had not been negligent so act of god/accident and we claimed on ours.
