break down cover for EU (1 Viewer)

Hi
all can anybody give advise regarding the best break down recovery cover for the eu , we are leaving the uk on the 15th december for 3 months and need breakdown and recovery cover, any help would be welcome, we have tried the aa ect but the motorhome is too big for them, the motorhome dimensions are below.

If it hasn’t changed, we had cover for unlimited trips of up to 90 days per trip.
Around £145 if I remember correctly.
Don’t know if they will cover your van, but worth a phone call.

We took out cover this year with Green Flag.
When we broke down with clutch problems in Germany their response was excellent arranging rescue to an appropriate garage, a hotel and a taxi between the two. It took the immediate worry out of the situation.
The repair took a long time which led to other issues but that’s another story.

Just open a Nationwide flex plus bank account. There is a monthly fee of £13 which gives travel, mobile and European breakdown cover including motorhomes up to 5T So you would be covered. Open the account ensure you pay the £13 per month by depositing £39 then if you so wish close the account when you get back. So three months cover for £39. Jobs a goodun

You could also try the Insurance Factory. We had EU cover for our Winnebago for +90 day trips. I know they reduced this a while ago ( the reason we went with County Insurance) but they did write to me last year telling me they now do longer periods of cover. Again, might be worth a call, they insure RV’s of almost any age.

Not that easy you have to have £500 a month going into the account and a couple of direct debits set up.

Not this account. No rules as to cash movement.
The only limitation is the amount of interest paid. It is set at 3% for the first £2500 so thats £75 per year interest. You pay £150 a year for the account, so in real terms the insurance for breakdown cost £75 per year


In plain English this means, you'll earn interest on the first £2,500 of your balance each month but you won't get any interest on any part of your balance over £2,500.

On the last day of each month we calculate the interest you've earned each day of that month and then pay you this interest on the 1st day of the next month. We pay interest without tax deducted. Find out more about the changes to the .

We have cover through our Nationwide Flex account - our Motorhome is 8.2M and I rang their recovery firm (Britannia) and they said not a problem..

We had a bit of a problem getting insurance to cover us when on the continent for longer periods and for a 7.5 tonne vehicle. We got our policy through the Caravan and Camping Club which gave extended cover in the EU. It was the RAC Arrival policy.

Our vehicle is still under manufacturer's warranty but we were concerned about breaking down and needing to be repatriated. The manufacturer's warranty just gets you to the nearest Iveco garage and don't cover repatriation should it be necessary.

One of the issues we had with getting breakdown cover as part of a vehicle insurance is the value of the vehicle. A number of them won't even quote. I think this may be a problem you'll encounter too.

They will not issue policies to new applicants. If you already have it you can keep it so do not let it lapse

Unfortunately the vehicle covered is up to 7500kg and 8m in length.

As @Northernraider said safeguard is an option. Our van is similar in size to yours.
