Evening everybody, I'm travelling solo to France and Spain in a few weeks time and a little worried about my ability to see traffic when joining motorways and at junctions etc. Does anyone have any advice and recommendations for blind spot mirrors??. The small ones online don't seem to be up to the job.
Many thanks.

Mine came with little round ones which I was going to remove forgot and now find they do the job, you may be impressed won't know until try them.

I have one like this that clips onto the casing of your van wing mirror and is big enough to be useful. The mirror glass itself is adjustable within its casing to suit the view you want.
I like that it does not take up or blank any space of your existing wing mirror.

I don’t have any additional mirrors, when approaching junctions I either stop short or angle the van to get visuals , not perfect but works for me

Thanks Two on Tour, they could do the trick. Did you get a good view from the driver's seat?

Yes scotch mist I was thinking along those lines, it's just joining the motorways that I was concerned at mostly, cheers.

Yes, it bigger than most of the overtaking/blindspot mirrors so you get coverage of a larger area, plus its less confusing to look at as it is separate from your existing mirror

Can't say about Spain, but we are on our first trip to France in a RHD moho, and joining motorways is the easiest. Long lanes to merge in, and you are parallel to the flow so your mirror just works normally.

These are excellent, I’m into my second set as I changed vans
Approx 4”x3” and stick on

This has certainly not been my personal experience acropolis22 and I have spent 8.5 years camping mainly in the EU 4 months a year and covering 39k miles. Without my wife, who drives so is aware, being there to help look when joining the motorways on many occasions it would be a completely blind adventure.

Yes if you are lucky to be on motorways joining on a long almost parallel slip road you can get a view but on many you cannot & on the German autobahn it is often impossible. 2 lanes only and unlimited speed it is frightening & I wouldn’t like to be trying it on my own.

I drive a coach built and once, in Germany, my wife missed a car approaching very fast and I couldn’t even see it, we nearly hit them as unlike most drivers in the U.K. many abroad don’t/won’t move lanes to let you on. It’s not in their rules to do so and I’ve seen many cars giving way on the slip road for that very reason! Never seen that here, ever, apart from in roadworks occasionally.

I know we must give way here if necessary but we are taught to move lanes to allow the flow of traffic and many now think this is a right here.

I think I may just consider getting one of the mirrors listed above to double the eyes looking 😜

When joining roads with junctions at an acute angle a Fresnel lens on the passenger window gives a good view down the road. I have one of the soft plastic ones on my van (sliding window on A Class) , if you have a standard cab you can get thin hard plastic ones that are OK for wind up windows.

I got mine from a Merc commercial dealer and luckily they fitted the top contour of my existing mirrors perfectly/

I would not be without them and the parabolic effect also covers down to low sportscar level and up to MH roof level.

Would having thick Mirror Guards fitted on existing long reach mirrors pose a problem in fitting one of those mirrors as shown thus far?
I did notice one of them listed mentioned a problem when fitting to thick mirror casings, even listed the car types they would not fit.
Maybe one fitted by drilling through the existing casing would be a better bet, if that's possible.

With mine, it is in fact fitted to the Mirror Guard casing and not the van's mirror case.
The foot of my clip-on mirror pushes past the rubber seal on the Mirror Guard casing going between the Mirror Guard and the van's mirror case.

Having covered many thousands of miles in Europe in RHD MoHo’s solo & with passenger I totally agree with acropolis22 joining motorways is the easiest junction to negate , you & me must have totally different driving Styles

No idea what the situation is in Germany, my comments were specifically about motorways in France. Never had any problems with the mirror view. And in France we've found other drivers very good about moving over to let you on.
