Giving the old van a spruce up before we are off. What is the best thing to get all the black plastic back to its original black colour. I have tried all sorts.

I used Meguiars Black Plastic Restorer on my carbon vinyl as it was recommended by 3m the foil manufacturer. I thought well lets have a pop at my black flap handles and it seems to have done a good job. I have not seen how it will last yet as only did it this winter and been in the hutch for that time.

I've tried all sorts, from peanut butter to Maguires black plastic restorer.... Nothing seems to last more than a few months but Maguires seems to last the longest on the plastic I've treated.

A hairdryer works best for me.

Black kiwi shoe polish applied with a medium-to-hard bristled shoe brush.

Massage it in and then polish the area 'gently' until a very light shine is achieved.

Apply one or two more times if needed.

It'll last for a long time.

WD40 - lasts about 4 months before having to reapply.

I used this . Works really well

Autoglym do a bumper restorer
I find it works fine
Use once or twice a year
I'm surprised when folk seem to think it will last for ever though
They wash and polish the rest of the van regularly (will some do)

The black plastic bumpers arent uv stable so whatever you use it will go dull and grey. So an ongoig job when vehicles get older .

I've tried many products but it seems that anything that comes out of a container that is not black is only short term.

Loving your new nickname. You should be on commission with Amazon, the number of funzters who bought them after your post on it. Brilliant. :)

I have tried quite a few and now stick with Forever Black, it certainly lasts and not too bad to apply.

I've used autoglym. Really easy to out on, and don't need to buff off.

I thought mine always had been dark grey! The trouble with the black stuff is it's so easy to get it on the paintwork, where it's difficult to remove.

Boiled linseed oil is absolutely amazing on black plastic. I won’t use anything else and it smells nice

+1 for WD40. I go around the van occasionally lubricating the hunges etc and finish off with a clean rage sprayed with a little WD$) and rubbed over the black plastic fittings. Works a treat.

Any hinges with nylon inserts like the hab door, WD40 will bugger them it makes nylon swell.

Yep - aware of that but thanks for pointing it out - benefit others of course.

I recently bought some 'Black Pack' plastic restorer from our local old school DIY store. It's a fast evaporating cleaner, which I used with a foam backed scouring pad to very good effect. I've tried all sorts in the past - this is the best I've seen.

It's this stuff, I paid £1.25. took just over 1 can to get all the black bits of my Boxer looking pretty much like new.

We had a 2007 Ducato van that came with mid-grey bumpers. They'd faded quite a lot and gone streaky, making the van look really dated. We used Back to Black to stain them black. It needed topping up every year or so, but it was pretty effective.

We last stained them last year. This was a photo from the wash just before we sold it last week:
