Booked to go to New Forest this weekend but looks like 45mph winds plus all Friday and Saturday. Would you a) go but storm straps on awning (Vango Attar, not wind out) b) go but keep everything inside and battened down c) stay at home?

Bloody wind....,

I had planned yacht racing at Cowes on Saturday and got guests invited, hotel accommodation sorted, restaurants booked, ferries organised etc.....

Now have cancelled it due to the Force 7 gusting force 9/10 predicted winds....

Damn....

Last time out in Scotland we were in gusts of up to 60mph totally exposed on the west coast. Mrs Fusion slept like a log, I was kept up much of the night by the rain and buffeting so not exactly relaxed in the morning. :frowny:
My benchmark was the horrendous storm we found ourselves in on the Spanish coast. Luckily I managed to squeeze in between a larger moho and a wall, so he took most of the pain.

Well the Wombles organised Rally is on for Lymington this weekend, so we're in for a fun time. I'm certainly not choosing option C. I won't be doing is tempting fate with option A

So B it is :D At least I'll know how well my shiny new v-line deals with dodgier conditions (and I know some on here are just wishing for it to be another Autofail). But hey if I can deal with a tent getting buffeted in the wind enough that it's folding down over me and it needs my weight in it to stop it taking off, then a MH is going to be luxury.

Planned to go up to Fort William tomorrow and stay at the Glen Nevis campsite for 2 nights, was hoping to climb Ben Nevis on Friday then return on Saturday. Forecast looking pretty awful so now giving it a miss.

We have 3 sailors and 7 non-sailors.... It would put them off for life. The race committee have pulled the plug on the Saturday racing as they have concerns on safety.

Hey ho..

Well I’m at Hill View Awnings getting a replacement wind out awning. Guessing I’m not testing it this weekend :cautious:

Yes I'm going to that Rally too and I seem to remember it being the same weather last year

But check the trees are healthy

Yup. During storm Miguel a small branch fell on my PVC (no damage, phew). I thought I had chosen a safe pitch with only a young tree nearby. Elsewhere on site some very big branches fell including a few that narrowly missed tenters. After the storm had passed there were more broken branches that hadn't come down (yet) and were left hanging. It was sheer luck that nobody was hurt and no MHs or caravans damaged. Low season, many empty pitches, big trees, 70 mph wind gusts.

Trees are in full leaf now. If the ground is saturated there is some risk that a few mature trees may be blown over but from the forecast wind speeds tomorrow and Saturday I doubt that the gusts round here will be strong enough for that.

I love being snug at night in the m/h with the noise of rain and wind and the rocking lulling me off to sleep. I never had that relaxation in my yacht with the anchor chain grumbling, snatching and rattling and the crashing of waves against the distant shore or rocks. ?
