So you're upsetb
After paying rates water electric cleaning gardening wifi security and accountancy we are lucky if we see 200euros per week so we are not getting rich for a 500-000 euro villa thinking of putting the cleaners out of work and shutting it up but for my use so no holiday makers to spend money in town .
So you're upset because you're not making much money illegally in a foreign country.?

Aww. Boo sucks :(

If you do you're still going to have a lot of the overheads with no income!

I can't believe the owner was only taking that a month in rent for all that time.

The whole story is ridiculous.

Obviously I do not know the law in Spain, but when I bought my first house in London in 1975, from the landlady, after the tenant had died, this was the story I got from the elderly lady neighbour who was born in the house next door :-

The tenant had lived there under a 1930s controlled rent at £30p.w.. He alleged that it was the owner's responsibility to improve the premises. Even though he worked in the office of a major plumbing company he refused to pay for an upgrade of the plumbing and used a gas copper boiler to heat water for a tin bath. I inherited both items. I should have taken photos to confirm this.

The landlady refused to upgrade the plumbing on the basis that at that controlled rent there was no money to pay for an upgrade.

Was there something similar involved in this story?

We regularly travel to the Canary Islands as tourists, staying in hotels. By visiting we give business directly to the hotel who use my money to employ staff.

We also eat out every lunchtime and some evenings giving money to the local businesses who use it to pay staff.

As my wife doesn’t walk too well we get around the localities using Taxis, which I pay for.

Now, I understand that if “foreigners” buy up properties, that may increase housing costs for locals, and they genuinely have my sympathy in this.

However, when they complain that “rich tourists” are willing to pay more for goods and services they presumably don’t see that, if tourists stop visiting prices may be lower, but many businesses may well close as they have too few customers to break even.

Workers will lose their jobs leading to a drop in income and they may not be able to afford the new, lower, prices anyway.

We are due to visit Majorca in two weeks, if my wife is sufficiently recovered from a recent fall. Following that trip we will keep an eye on anti-tourism demonstrations and select for our holiday destination a place that appears to want us.

The government’s of the Canaries and the Balearics claim that the people are complaining about the tourism industry, not the tourists themselves, yet “Tourist go home” signs are becoming apparent and Palma airport is to be targeted by demonstrations to cause disruption for travellers.

Back to the Motorhome I think but, then again, the U.K. doesn’t seem to like us either.😉

Tourists go home is appearing in Greece now too , demonstrations in Athens but it will soon spread with copycats like it has in Spain.

I was doing some work up at Ballater, helping our local guy out. When it came to lunch time, we went to a local baker's and he said "Tell me what you want to eat and I'll get it, you'll pay more for it if they think you're not local !"

Are we in our camper-vans sitting pretty with all of this?

We don’t buy affordable accommodation so we can air b and b it.

We don’t use very much water as we have to source it.

We don’t fly to the holiday destination, but travel spending as we go.

We shop locally as its en route.

We are the ideal tourist of low impact to any community.
