I think we're going to go with Vodafone. Mobile router, 30gb a month for £25, no cap.

I have no knowledge of other networks but I know you were never able to tether using mobile phone data with 3 when abroad when using 3 at home. Unless rules have changed recently

Now that it doesn't cost extra for Europe we have taken out a 12 month contract with Tesco (o2) 3gb,1000 minutes and 5000 texts for £10,we buy our own phones. In the past we were on pay monthly when at home and changed to paygo when going abroad, got a mifi and used 3 with a 12gb 12 month sim on previous trips. No limit with Tesco when abroad so might not need the mifi in future, you can also tether with them.

I'm confused, isn't 30gb a cap..?
That's the contract data allowance per month but when abroad some providers limit the amount of UK data allowance that you can use there, eg we have a '3' contract for 40gb a month, but it is capped so we can only use 12gb a month abroad ... some are up to 15gb a month, some don't 'cap' at all.

We've got contract phones with Tesco and a '3' mobile data sim contract so we're covered for all eventualities!

This is what we have done with plusnet mobile 3gb 1000 minutes £8 a month 1 month contract. Plusnet uses EE network.

Vodafone say there's no EU cap

Pay as you go 3 sim is limited to 9gb per month too. It's written in the roaming terms and I fell foul of it this month. Luckily I had a second sim to top up

But no European Roaming
Sorry I was talking about the 3 data sim. I have the internet with legs sim (12gb) and when it ran in France out I just topped it back up but when I passed 9gb within a month it cut out

Vodafone. No cap, no limit, no throttling, no expiry, just exactly what you get in the uk, for the duration of your contact. I have this in writing and have a 2 year contract. Sorted.

With Plusnet you get double allowances if you are a broadband customer and if you phone them you can get an even better deal. I got 5GB & 2000 min for £10/month, 1 month contract.

Change of mind

Gone for 50GB of mobile data 24 months for £24 a month inc vat (can claim £4 vat back) so £20

Will send SIM for mobile that I ordered back and keep THREE 3 Sim

Best of Both Worlds

+ Can use the Vodaphone abroad for two months so when the Orange runs out at our House in Spain, we can have the Vodaphone as back up.

Thanks everyone, I have switched from Threee to Vodaphone on a 1 month contract. 8GB, Unlimited mis etc.
Does the sim allow tethering? I couldn't find anything on tethering on the Vodafone website.
I'm considering getting a Vodafone sim for the MiFi for our trip to Italy. I know the Three sim will work there but Vodafone might be faster.

I can confirm that I've been using SWMBOs Three phone as a hotspot to provide for tablets and laptop. All through France and Spain we got between 3 & 8 Mbs.

Well chuffed :)
