When travelling our Golden retriever lies on one or other of the bench seats and inevitably, at some point as we corner, the cushion complete with dog slides off. We have been using straps around the cushions and under the timber frame but it's a pain putting them on and taking them off when making up / putting away the bed. Has anyone found a solution to this or is it just our cushions that do it? We have a 2003 Ace Capri so I'm not sure if newer motorhomes have something built in to stop this happening. Thanks

Hi
Our Swift Mondial has short straps with press studs which attach to side wall behind cushion. But as the cushions never move, we don't use them.

Either fit something like donkey has or get some sticky backed velcro such as ebay have. (Other suppliers are available including probably local to you). dryad types faster than me!!

You could try a roll of the non slip rubberised matting that is often used in cupboards. No guarantees but you can usually get a small roll of it from cheap shops so wouldn’t cost much to try.

Thank for this - I didn't realise that they made velcro that wide - I think that would be strong enough to hold them

gotta be worth a try, it'll work, does in my van although don't have a dog to add weight to help hold things down..

That's a good thought - I do have some left over at the moment so I could try that. Thanks

The grip mat does work and the heavier the item on top-dog-should help hold it in place.
We use grip mat for stuff in the van and Aldi/Lidl very often have it in!

We use cupboard joining blocks like these

place them at each corner of the cushion base, if you have a board base to cushion.

I agree the rug grip should help. We have used it under a mattress on a wooden bed base at home and it works well. I assume the dog is secured with a harness to something solid?

Aldi currently have some non slip matting for sale. Not sure of the size. Think it is £2.99 per roll

My ancient Elddis has blocks under the cushion base which fit into the base framework, like those listed above by Otter Spotter.

Used Velcro in my caravan for seat pads and back rests and they never slipped again - a firm pull was needed to pull them off along with a very satisfying ripping sound !
I stitched loop side to cushions and stuck hook side to bench seat. Was best to avoid hooked side being on the cushions as stuff would stick to it when laundering the covers whereas could use a stiff brush on seat frame if required.

Thanks, that would work - especially because on one side I think the bench doesn't go down completely as we have a mattress topper underneath it

Thanks very much - I hadn't thought about which side to put where but this makes sense

Another reason to put the hooky bit on the solid base is that its a s*d to try to sew without getting the thread tangled up ... I speak from experience! :giggle:

Screw a strip of this to the base with nobbles pointing up. The weight of the dog will help the cushions stay put. Velcro will pull the underside of the cushions after a while.

I did think of that but my husband isn't keen and doesn't think it will work with our 30 Kg dog - has anyone tried this?
Velcro is used on my Rapido to keep seat cushions in place.

Dethleff use velcro or similar on all seat and back rest cushions. It takes a huge pull to remove them at 90 degrees. At a horizontal slide I would say it is virtually impossible.

Same here on ours, we have rigid round velcro discs about 75mm OD (they are fixed to the bench) and then softer material velcro strips on the underside of the cushions, super strong.

our Rapido is factory fitted with 50mm wide super strong velcro strips to hold the cushions. They stay put with 3 dogs on when travelling and the dogs don't slide off if we put a piece of non slip matting on top of the cushions

We had the same with our 34kg Dobermann, with Velcro on there she can lie there with no movement at all.

My Rapido uses velcro, fitted by the manufacturer to hold the cushions in place and my dog doesn't move the cushions; worth trying on oe cushion and see how it goes?,
