Has anyone had experience of tightening the tambour door knob? From what I can see I believe the top should unscrew to hopefully reveal a screw. I cant see any other way but don't want to damage the knob with mulgrips if there is another way to do it.

Are you sure they don’t just screw in to each other?

Turn one while you hold the other.

Is there not a grub screw on the underside ?

Or to confirm there is a hidden screw try tightening it by hand first applying outwards pressure (pull out from door slightly as you turn it)

Are they not knobs for the door latch? turn to undo or something similar in which case the knobs may well be fastened to a bar inside the door access through the latch plate.

Hi is the top part of the handle / body not a cap that will unscrew to reveal a hidden screw in the centre, try taking the o ring off the top to see if there is a join line underneath

That is my thinking but I was ordered to seek advice before I set about the knobs with mulgrips! Didn't think of taking the O ring off though so may well give that a go

I couldn't find a way of unscrewing ours but it was loose enough to be causing significant rattle when driving. I used fibre washers, cutting a slit in each, then worked them onto the spindle. Works fine and no rattle.

The cap if it has one might click off rather than unscrew.

Remove the 'O' rings to see if there's evidence of their being a removable cap or grub screw. If not they might be simply internally threaded & held on with thread lock adhesive - if so heating the knob will free it. Use opposing Mole wrenches with rubber to pad the jaws.

Ok - thanks for all the suggestions - I have managed to get the knobs off - the trick was to unscrew the one inside the shower rather than the outside one. I now just need to work out what to use to pack it out, have tried a metal washer but it didn't work as when I opened the door from the inside the knob just tightened fully and then wouldn't move either way. My trusty Gaffer tape just rucked up when the knob was turned. I guess I need to find a washer just the right thickness to stop it rattling but will allow the inside knob to be fully tightened and still be able to open the latch. @WynandJean don't suppose you know what size fibre washer you used?

and if you reassemble without any packing, what is the gap? it may be that the hole in the mechanism is worn. try thin strips of duct tape along the centre of the bar

Thanks - that may be the answer although the movement is horizontal rather than vertical it may be enough to stop it rattling if I can get it to stay on as I push it through.

Looks about the same size as a rubber tap washer (nozzle end)

You could reassemble and try rapping string or wool around the the gap to tighten up any play

Hmm... I don't know the actual size but, as said, it's about the size of a standard tap washer. Looking at it it's just smaller than the hole the handle fits in. One each side slit through so it can be passed behind the knob and onto the spinde then waggle it about a bit and it settles in. Pleased with the result.

Option 1.
Put a packing washer on, thread lock the spindle threads, tighten the knob just enough to stop any unwanted movement, leave until the thread lock compound has cured.
Option 2.
Insert packing material INSIDE the hole in the knob and tighten until it just nips onto the spindle while still allowing the knob to turn.
Add or remove packing as needed.

If you can measure the gap that needs reduced, just file that much off the end of the threaded portion that fits inside the knob, then, when you fit the knob back on, it will be nearer the door by the amount you filed off once it bottoms out on the threaded section.

our adria has exactly the same bits, not noticed a rattle (will check lol)

it is a bit of a p*ss fit tho, not the best in terms of quality i will give you that!

my temptation would be to use fibre washers to stop play, and set up as pappajohn said
