Hi everyone, I posted a hello on the introduce yourself forum as we have been getting the newsletter for seven years now since getting our first van but having met some of you at Newbury we realised what we were missing by not joining. So here we are....
I have a question however which I'm sure one of you good people can help with. We are on our second van now, an Elddis 115, and, being used to our previous Chausson fixed bed we are struggling with sheets and duvet and mattress topper and stuff so are thinking about getting Duvalays. So.....we're wondering if anyone has experience of these things and if they are as good as advertised. Do they roll up as small as they say and, most important, are they comfy? All replies will be gratefully received.

When we had non fixed bed we used the Duvalay bedding. Expensive but work very well. Quick and easy to make up and put away.

We used a pair of duvalay mattress toppers for years in our last van. We found them really great to use and they were rolled up each morning and stored away but never creased and split unlike a cheaper mattress topper we tried at first.

Expensive but in our opinion well worth it.

Put simply the Duvalay mattresses etc, they're really comfy.

Duvalays are brilliant

Put a double cotton flannel sheet folded in half on the seat and use a single duvet in a cover. Cheaper and stores smaller.

Wow, thanks for your replies everyone, it seems you are all in favour of Duvalays so I think we'll bite the bullet tomorrow and order them. The dispatch time seems to be about 2 weeks at the moment so I'll try them out and let you know the result. Thanks again folks, so glad we joined you.

Duvalay's are one of our best purchases, but just check you have store space for them in their rolled up state when not in use during the day.

If you are handy with a sewing machine, or good at hand sewing, you could make your own to see if you like them first. There's a thread (no pun intended) on the forum about how to make them yourself using a double/king size duvet cover, a single duvet and a single memory foam topper.

Thanks "Two on Tour". As long as they roll up to their advertised size we can fit them in the bottom of the wardrobe. At the moment the wardrobe is stuffed full of bedding and duvet. Pleased to hear you are so happy with them.

Hi Minxy Girl, thanks for the link. Read it with interest but it is out of our league I'm afraid. Sewing is something other people do and we watch with amazement.

We use our 2 single beds and each use a double duvet with cover.Just fold it in half so it's like a sleeping bag with no zip..Great.BUSBY.

We used 2 x single Duvalays in our last Moho (Autotrail Imala 615, similar to your 115) and for a little while in the new Moho (Apache 634) but we now use a mattress topper (non-duvalay) and duvet, no sheets; works for us. The Duvalays when rolled up and bagged, took up most of the overhead cab lockers although there was room for the pillows. So, to sum up, the Duvalays were great but not that small when rolled up, you will need a good bit of storage room just for them. (y)

Hmmm thanks Busby and Steve. More food for thought. It seems the storage size is the critical factor. We think we can fit them in the bottom of the wardrobe which at the moment is full of sheets and duvet etc anyway. Keep fingers crossed for us.

We have a U shaped lounge and make bed up into a large double at night. We have a PVC so storage is limited. We have two single duvalays and leave them on the the U shaped lounge with a throw over them during the day rather than the palaver of rolling them. Especially when teavelling every few days there'd be nowhere fir them to go.

We have a pvc and use a double duvet on the bottom and a king size on top. Both are down, so store really well, and no need for bottom sheet as the double duvet cover is on.

What about 2 single mattress toppers, cut to fit the sofas and left on during the day with throws over them, then just a couple of single duvets put over at night? You'd then only have the duvets to store.

As for sewing, you could use iron on hemming tape instead of stitching ... can you use an iron?

We have two Duvalays and they are really comfortable. In fact, I sleep better in the MH than I do at home. Every morning, once rolled up, they fit easily into the storage bags. They then sit quite happily on each bench seat behind the driver's and passenger's seats and, to stop them from falling about when travelling, they are attached to the two seats with bungee cords. Restuffing the covers after washing them can be a bit of a faff.

An iron? Oh, is that the thing that comes out of hiding on Sunday and attacks the contents of the airing cupboard? If I suggested any more use for it I think I would be handed my head!
Thank you everyone for all your feedback and suggestions, the vote seems to be in favour of getting Duvalays so we've ordered them. I'll report back when they arrive and we've tried them out.

We just got a new mattress for our Rapido pull down bed.
This company made it to our bespoke size, to order and we received it within 48 hours!!
I could not be happier with the service we had, fantastic little English company.

Bed was almost a standard double, top of their range and we paid £365.99 delivered!!

The best service I have had for a very long time and bloody comfortable too.

Give them a look.(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

So, report as promised. The Duvalays arrived, on time as stated and well packed. We've had a couple of long weekends with them and they are just brilliant. They are comfortable beyond belief and roll up to the size advertised so they fit perfectly in the wardrobe. Definitely recommend them if you're thinking about them.
