Bought motor home two yrs ago after having caravans for 30 years
when we were coming back from Spain on 31 October we phoned Bilbo’s port to see if we could stay overnight on port , we were told yes it’s perfectly safe , no trouble with immigrants we were told . I checked again at the check in , yes it’s safe they said , there many vans and lorry’s so we felt safe ... until 11 pm I heard someone shout help help call the police , I don’t know what I was thinking as I went outside with broom in one hand and a baseball bat , gaud knows what I would have done had I seen the people who were trying to get in or on vans ,this poor man was terrified and his dog was going mad , my hubby looked under our vans , but just outside our door on the ground was a big knife , security came and said they normally drop the knives they carry ! Because if caught with a knife they can be arrested , otherwise they are just escorted of port ! In the morning we were told five had been escorted of port , but guard said they come back ! We won’t be staying there anymore .. broom or no broom at hand

Handy to know but what has happened in the intervening 12 days ? o_O

We stayed there I think last November and whilst the immigrants were wondering about there was no trouble.

We slept like babies. :)

We are on the Bilbao to Plymouth ferry on Thursday, afternoon sailing so not sleeping on the quay.

knows what I would have done had I seen the people who were trying to get in or on vans ,this poor man was terrified and his dog was going mad , my hubby looked under our vans ,

So all they were trying to do was stow away under the van?

Illegals are targetiing all the known ports with access to the UK`s benefits sytsem via ferries. In Spain they generally come via Morocco. So the North Spanish ports are the first accessible. With plenty of trucks bringing produce here a fair number must get through.

It was scary they dropped knife outside our door

After happily sleeping overnight at Bilbao a couple of times I must admit the last couple of crossings we've gone for a lunchtime/afternoon ferry and stayed away from the Port. It's a pity because it was nice getting into Portsmouth in the morning but no point looking for things to worry about, I don't need any help at all!

Scary indeed. I have a grudging admiration for economic migrants, the majority of whom are just trying to make a better life for themselves and or their family. Something I know I would be doing if I wasn't born so lucky.

In another life, I've chased and caught many economic migrants, (China>HK) many of them had been extremely brave and suffered much hardship, most of those caught I felt dreadfully sorry for. The ones who got no sympathy were those who tried to come in armed (knives) this was rare and when captured, rather than a cup of tea, they invariably got thick lips or worse.

Who determines if they are escaping persecution in there own country or travelling to the UK to rob and pillage. Just watch crimewatch.

We were on Bilbao on 26th Nov,, Noticed a couple of our African friends trying back doors on a van in next lane,,I banged on the window and shouted, They smiled and buggered off.We never felt threatened in any way..They would not get access to vehicles using violence they have to use stealth. Had same at ouistrem last year..BUSBY

About 6 weeks ago there was a feature on one of the uk news channels re all the current stabbings in London recently. A local person working in the community trying to combat gang violence said most was down to African migrant youths in a turf war over supply of drugs and guns. They are bringing their values and culture to the streets of our cities

When we returned to the UK from Bilbao last year the police were escorting some migrants from right where we were boarding the ferry. Don't know how they got so near the boat. Just have to keep our wits about us.

We where seeing this sort of thing in the 70`s, Threw several off the RoRo ferries, trying to hide in lockers and the Engine spaces in various African Ports. They all think English Steets are paved with Gold. They abandon their families most of the time.

We have been using Bilbao for a good number of years and even on the times we overnighted there we have had no encounters with illegals. The Guarda seem to patrol regularly and search many of the motorhomes and lorries though I have never seen any one caught. The overnighting area is used by trucks as well as vans and the main problem for some will be the generators running on the reefer trucks

If you can get at the figures, because the police play it down for the consumption of the public, you will find that the MOST number of the most serious "assaults with weapon" and deaths. are the action of "Black on Black". Not just in London but in most major cities. There are exceptions, and recently we have been seeing in Hull, more stabbings and serious assaults, which are actually the action East European ethnic on other East European groups, there is a very large Eastern European Cadre hereabouts and on down the East Coast generally brought in as cheap labour from the Baltic and Adriatic states. All thanks of course to the EU "Freedom of Movement".

I have, like Jim, a certain sympathy for the economic migrant,, probably due to the fact that as I see it, I am one! Although at the moment I’m only here in the uk, I like to go to various locations to get work, and hopefully improve my situation,, but I am lucky in the fact that I am a Brit,, and it’s made very easy for me to go anywhere in the uk, park up, work and have a decent life!!

The big difference being that you have paid taxes in this country since leaving school to pay for the way of life these migrants crave and receive for nothing

Illegals are entitled to nothing until they become legal. Asylum seekers get less than job seekers and EU migrants need to work as long as a UK citizen to get benefits.

Think everyone thinks migrants only come to UK for Benefits,,Dont think in general this is true, most are looking for work to improve their living standards. No one gets rich on Benefits ,, . Of course Daily Mail and Express readers will disagree. BUSBY.:xdoh::xdoh:

If there is a glut of cheap labour it does help to suppress wages for employers so it’s good for some.
