Just watched on TV this evening.
How many will stay or just sell up.
Will 90 day's be enough?

Many have residence status and have for many years. Even those who never got around to it would probably apply as its their home and if they do not its a case of back to the UK. We know many out in Spain and have come back to live with family to get through this Covid year and to get the jab.

My good lady has just gone through applying for residence in the UK as she holds an EU passport. She has lived here in the UK for 60 years and although is entitled for permanent leave to remain, when Malta joined the EU and the free movement, her current passport then was not re stamped and does not bear the leave to remain stamp.

So to enable free and easy access ,she was required to apply for settled status so there were no issues at the border in the future. This will be the same for all the Brits throughout the EU countries.

So the system is in place to become resident in the EU countries if you are entitled.

As far as many packing up and coming back, yes many have left for reasons only known to them. On Villamare camp site Benidorm web site, a site many Funsters on here use in the Winter, there are many fixed touring vans fully fitted out for sale for around £12000. I have seen similar vans being sold back in 2019 for around £25000 so the market for used vans on a site is very good for 'Bargain loving Brits'

True but may be too costly now for the so called Bargain Brits, State pensioners and those on low income living under the Radar for years, these cannot afford to get residencia in parts of the EU. Missed to boat, so to say, but like you said, some managed to cross back to the UK and reside with family.....for some, it just was too much effort, wouldn't except change.....still expecting some very sad stories to emerge.......had a chat on facebook a couple of days ago, lady stated that there is nothing to worry about, the Spanish police will turn a blind eye, perhaps she need to see for herself the Brit cars being removed and taken to be......who knows....

We watch this a lot, but we say many times, the people who must be making the most out of it is the second hand furniture dealers, who just keep moving it around everytime someone moves in or out.

Even 12k is overpriced for a run down ex tourer. Because that's all they're buying, the pitch is about €500 a month plus electric.

If I was the “Bargain Brit” type of person being alluded to here then I would make my way to Fethiye (or similar) in Turkey.

Better weather than Spain, cheaper cost of living than Spain, cheaper property or long term rental than Spain, arguably nicer than many Spanish resorts, locals welcome you and the visa system (which I used in 2010) although “based” on Schengen is easier compared to the post Brexit situation in euro land.

As you say ex tourer. In the main they are no longer touring caravans. The internals are ripped out refitting as one/two bedrooms and a bathroom fully plumbed into the system. The awning is where any cost is taken up. They are panelled and insulated with the awning area being turned into a lounge/kitchen area. In essence a small living apartment with outside seating entertaining area. Yearly fees around 4800 Euro but the electric is overcharged at around 45c per KWT, the standard spanish rate is 20c. Can you buy an apartmentment for 12000E, I think not. Yes a 5300E yearly running cost compare that to your running cost on a home in the UK.
It clearly sits in with many living in the Costas also many of us who Winter long term in the same location.

4600€ per year. all in.....Inc pool, fast internet, secure location, bars and restaurants..sports facilities, 18 hole golf course...20 minutes from uncrowded beaches....not living in a caravan on a campsite....a luxury apartment....that's what you can get if you shop around....sorry it's not Beni, in fact it's....too near us to give away the location...

Great price. We have said many times if you are looking to live full time in the region there are several options to consider.

Agreed, but cold and wet in the winter (We owned a property there for 14yrs)

You get good and bad winters just like Spain don't you Pete?

My experience of Turkey is mostly based on Kalkan which is on the coast.

But one aspect of Fethiye is some surrounding residential areas are in the mountains 400-500 metres above sea level and at a reduction of 1 degree centigrade for every 100M then it makes a difference, especially in winter.

I can understand why people buy static vans like they do in this country. It’s a flat level surface around the site normally, it’s residents are similar to them, they will see more people in a day then they ever would all week in a street at home, usually a little shop for essentials . It all works well for them.

Fethiye is a port city, situated in a natural harbour.

Spain being further west usually gets better winter's than Turkey..Both better than UK though.BUSBY.
