Seen at Beamish on the car park, it looked brand new though obviously it wasn’t.

I do love those dinky little vans. I’ve been inside a couple, so cute and very solid, well made.
There’s one that’s always parked up here, on the main road in Pickering, going out to Thornton Dale.
They aught to bring them out again, I think they’d do well. Though they’d probably ruin them by going all tinny and light weight with the interior as manufacturers tend to have done over the past 20 years.

Great vans the t4s , think the better ones are the 1.9td or TDI.
Although the 2.4d is a strong ol workhorse.noisy though.
1.9 non turbo is to under powered IMO.
The go on into the 250k no worries with regular services.

Looks like a very nice, well looked after van.
I wonder how much it cost when new and what it is worth now.
I would guess that the average depreciation per year is very low.

Don't know about that model but an Autosleeper Symbol in 1998 was 28000 pounds on the road. Would think that VW would have been dearer.BUSBY.

Your picture shows an example that is clearly well loved by it's proud owner.
I agree with others that these are well designed and cute, destined to become a classic one day I reckon.
We looked inside one when originally shopping for ours, didn't meet the full brief unfortunately.

I very nearly bought one before buying the iveco ....same model as this one for £11k and it looked minted but when checking the mot history the welding it had had was the stuff off nightmares so I never bothered

Think they are already a classic :) IIRC Autosleeper stopped making the monocoque bodied m/hs due to the cost of production. Body first out of the mould and then fitted out internally with bespoke carpentry - same as a luxury yacht.

I wouldn't go that far ..i had an autosleeper vw before and my parents had 3 autosleepers over the years . Nothing like a luxury yacht and the monocoque body were prone to starring on the fibreglass.

They were good vans ..but lets not get carried away 😁

We nearly bought a Clubman from a dealer near Preston. Externally it looked really we’ll presented if a bit too shiny for its age.
Once I started looking closer it was filthy under the bonnet and the tow bar was rusty. The inside smelled of wet dogs and there was a used dishcloth in the sink. We walked away without speaking to the dealer.
I think the one in the photo is the Gatcombe. Same body with different trim and the later 2.5 engine. We had those on our list but couldn’t find one at the time we were looking.

Correct it is a Gatcombe, the fibreglass was flawless with no crazing or marks at all and it looked very tidy inside, I had to take a peek 😙 it looked original inside.

Did you notice the reg? It may have been the one i saw on ebay. I posted details of it on my van build thread. The van looked minted inside and out. The mot history was a different matter though sadly . Underside had rotted away due to not being used and had loads of welding done

You're the man for welding though! How much wire you got left?

We bought a 1988 autosleeper Talbot express of an older couple who only used fir days out, it was like new, we went down to Slovenia/Croatia in it, not a miss fire at all. After 11 years we bought a 1998 autosleeper executive, had it for 3 years, they were so well built

They did a Re run of them about 5 years ago.
