For the end of our last trip at Aug bank holiday and for the whole of this Devon trip, the TV will not hold on to the stored channels. When switching on it defaults to audio channels only.
We have found instructions to do the factory reset (press SOURCE and then press buttons 2580 and then select Factory Reset), and this enables us to rescan and get the channels back. However, it will not store them ready to use again in the morning. Tv is 6 years old.

I have searched for Avtex problems but not found a solution apart from returning unit to Avtex.

We had a similar problem on our old Avtex in that it would loose channels but not all of them, it turned out to be a dodgy F plug connector from the sat dish.

What model number is it ?
Not a quick answer, documentation doesn’t give it so now looking at sticker on back of TV says
D141212L187DRS0168 which must be a serial number.
Cannot find any other identification

Numbers on the quick start guide say it refers to
L187DRS, L217DRS and L247DRS

Yes it a 187DRS . I asked because there are some software updates available on the Avtex website which I thought may of helped . Sadly there is no update for this model .

We have checked the aerial connection, just a freeview one and seems ok.

You have just reminded me of something I had to do after our last trip. Exactly the same problem, same model as well I think. Did factory reset, turned everything on and off. No connection problems that I could see. Will have another look but in the meantime will be grateful to know what feedback you get from Avtex. I seem to remember trying to Google some advice but can’t remember what was suggested.

Sometimes there is a little button cell in a holder on the PCB that it needs to remember the channels. When it eventually comes to the end of it's life the problems start.
Sounds like an explanation. I don’t remember whether the TV was left on standby or not, I think not. Would be interesting to see if it remembers them through a standby situation.
Anyway, I will will ring tomorrow and report back.

What’s the PCB. Am I being thick? Our TV is newish and isn’t left on standby.

It will be a control board inside the TV. So Richard n Ann is is suggesting that there could be a small button battery on it which is the channels memory. If so unlikely to be repairable at home.
I will report back on response from Avtex.

Does it lose the satellite channels too (I don’t know if you connect it to a satellite dish as well…..?)

I rang Avtex in Cardiff on 02920847670, selecting option 2. Spoke to a chap called Craig. I had to ring 3 times in all and he answered every time so I am not sure how big the tech support team is 😊

He emailed me an update file which I had to put on a USB stick and then put in TV. It did the update and then we had to do a Factory Reset (which sounds counter intuitive to me as that should negate the update!)
After that we did a channel search. All ok.
Switched off TV, power off too, and turned on again and channels still there. So, so far so good.

Craig confirmed that there is never a cell battery inside the TV.

Had to ring 3 times as first time he had incorrectly typed my email address. I waited all day before ringing back - “oh yes, I had a bounce back” You would think tech support would have the nous to ring me on the phone I had rang him on …
Then today when doing it, I was following the PDF instructions and there was a stage 3 which said to put the USB stick back in TV for the named update file, I wasn’t sent this file. Craig said “oh, yes, no need to do that stage so I didn’t send the file” !

Yes, fastest fingers first!! Thanks for your help. Will try and make some time over the next few days and get in the van to see if problem is still there then if so can try same as you and get in touch with Craig.

Maybe you need this update too, it should save the channels and you only need to rescan if you move.

Well, the plot thickens. I have just been in the van. Had to retune it to our area as we were in a different one last time we used it. Set up OK although had to be done through menu as the big red button. auto tune?? didn't want to work. All tuned in I turned it off with the remote, turned it back on and all channels still there. Aha! maybe its when its off at the mains, but no, after turning everything off all channels still there. Honest & cross my heart it didn't do that whilst we are way. Looks like I am going to have to try again on our next trip because it looks to be "cured" at the minute. Will keep watching this though as seems too good to be true. Thanks for your help.

Don’t think so as have always just tuned it in whenever we needed it. Wouldn’t really know how to save them. Agree it sounds a bit odd which is why when we go further south early next month I can have another go and see if it is something like that. Thanks

Slightly off thread but I hadn’t realised and was very surprised that there was no built in Bluetooth. We occasionally use headphones if one person wants to watch something and the other doesn’t. So I’m in the process of setting up the blue tooth transmitter just have to remember how to get it to pair to my headphones as refusing to play the game at the moment. It’s a wet day job when I can sit in the van and fiddle! Away from total technophobe husband who doesn’t even know where the in off switch is and can’t work out why it takes so long to tune it in each time!!! Happy days!

I hate technology! Bring back the wind up gramaphone! At Tewkesbury, tried to tune TV in, nothing, Nada! Not a channel to be had. Tried the little digital aerial on roof as well still nothing. Thought maybe a fault on the site but had a walk and everyone cosied up watching TV and when I asked all said no problem!!Not happy. Now I know it’s not a good roof aerial but when I first tried I did get 2 channels. Tried everything, I am so ….. not sure how to describe how fed up I am with it all. Moving on tomorrow so will try again there but not holding out much hope. I’ve looked at all the cables, settings etc and started from scratch and just can’t see where the problem is. Please just let it be a weak signal but if so what sort of aerial will I need to get a usable TV. Sorry rant over but feeling a bit helpless with it all.

Make sure your connections are good. On my avtex the aerial works it’s way out, and I’ve also been know not to notice the wrong connection on the aerial amplifier.

Checked all the cables as best I can. Can’t see anything lose. Also it doesn’t get any channels with roof too or small digital aerial on roof. Have tried them separately.

At least we are moving somewhere different tomorrow so can try again and hopefully decide if it’s aerial or TV.
