Morning Funsters. Time to replace our 10 year old Avtex, on its last legs - well, the 12v cable is kaput. New 21" Avtex about £380, or a 12v Ferguson (Cello?) is about £150. Believe Avtex very good whatever the viewing angle. Any thoughts from Funsters please? We mainly watch Dvd or USB stick.
Happy New YEAR!! Rob

Also had this dilemma when for a sharp smart tv 24 inch mains and 12 volt working good no people so and can use phone for internet tagged to tv

Many thanks - will have a look at Sharp.
Rob

I'd go to currys and look at them, check the viewing angle but they should all be OK nowadays. Also take a usb stick with the video formats you use on it to make sure they play, again though most should be OK especially branded TVs

Thanks - taking usb stick a sound idea.

I went for a Cello traveller with rechargeable battery pack. Can’t say I have noticed any problem with picture quality but sound doesn’t compare to home tv. Saying that I run the home tv through a Sonos playbase a day speakers as I didn’t think sound that good.

if you just want 12v tv/dvd combo see which have power brick supply and can run from 12v. I liked the battery pack idea myself although apart from F1 I rarely set the tv up

I'm going through the same process. I've just come from currys to look at an LG 24" with freeveiw and freesat looked good until I looked at the transformer brick in the lead it was 19volt o/p. So be careful when looking at domestic tvs with the brick it may not be any good for our use.

Also I spoke to electric mania they have the Ferguson 22" traveller at £149 and the cello 22"traveller at £174 I asked the difference as the Web pages on their shop are identical. The reply I got was "the badge" so you can save £25 by buying the Ferguson.

We have a 22" Cello Traveller (had a 19" in the last van) Horizontal viewing angle very good, vertical not so good but once you have it mounted to suit your sitting position not a problem. The standard Cello's do not have such a good viewing angle as the Travellers.

With the avtex pro, you can record one channel while watching another.

We’ve got a Finlux 22” 12 volt and had it about 3 years now and we’re pleased with it.

WE have a Cello Traveller, good TV, very low current consumption, but then the screen is not as bright. My hearing is lousy and I do struggle to hear most TVs, yet I find the sound quality on the Cello is good. As has been said above, the narrow viewing angle is not an issue in the mh.

We've got a 24" Ferguson (Cello) and the viewing angle (horizontal) is very good. Not really checked the vertical as it's on a mounting bracket that let's it swivel to a 90 degree angle to sight line.
Picture quality is excellent.
The only gripe for us is the sat tuner is now and next guide only (when it works) so we take a Manhattan SX sat receiver with us (it works off a 12v transformer) that has full FreeSat 7 day guide.

I’m in the Sharp camp as well, whilst Avtex are a great product I think their technology is dated. Streaming TV through a “stick” in this day and age seems old hat.

Manta 19" circa £105. Has 12v car lead. The mains lead is hard wired in so does not unplug. 18w power consumption. No dvd. Usb stick compatible, dvi socket. Vesa mounting only has provision for 2 top screws, not 4. Solved with piece of double sided tape. Mail order from company called box. Arrived well packed . Full hd picture. Sound not great but no room for decent sized speaker.
Other sizes are available.

Have a look at the Manta brand (Polish, I believe). We bought a 24” one, Freeview HD tuner, 1080p screen, with usb and hdmi inputs, about £130 online......
Viewing angle very good, and not too heavy either.

We had a Cello cant remember the model sorry but wasn't a traveller sent it back, viewing angle was terrible, decided to give Cello another try after recommendations on here to purchase the Cello traveller, had to send that back also, became faulty. So moved on to another make called Sniper and so far its been pretty good for the money and comes with 2 years warranty. ps all above models had dvd and usb built in. here is link for Sniper. Amazon product ASIN B018ITQUIU

I researched for ages and thought that Avtex were too expensive for what they are so went for the Sharp 24" Smart LED 12v/24v TV with Freeview Play, Satellite, Saorview PVR, LC-24CHG6132KFM . We bought from Amazon when on offer at £160 I see they have gone up to £190 but still a great TV. The sound and picture quality are very good it can receive satellite with onboard receiver, stream and do basic internet, YouTube etc.

You can also get a model with inbuilt DVD but we didn't think it was required as we watch films from a USB stick or portable hard drive, downloaded from various well known sources on the internet.

Now cheaper price direct from Amazon supplier https://dealbuyer.com/viewproduct/2...WR0Wbie_6pmi5FEyc7cjG2OalwkBMFgRoChU8QAvD_BwE

Hi I bought this tv too. Are you having any issues when not on ehu?
I am finding it only works on 13v which I get at the socket when either on ehu or engine running. When not I get 12v or less at the socket and tv goes off. Trying to decide weather to send it back?
Thanks
Dan

There a very good argument for buying an inverter and a 230V TV. Cheaper and probably better quality product and performance.

Have a cello tv will be changing it for a sniper tv as viewing angle very bad.

ours is the traveller tv. night scenes are bad day time scenes have shadows if not looking straight on.

I bought a SHARP 24" smart TV from Tesco for £159. Great picture and sound, and a DVD player, but much to my surprise, no Bluetooth so I can't use my SONY earbuds!

Yes you have to read the fine print specifications, even on the latest LG smart TVs we looked at, some didn't have Bluetooth. Our 24" one was £179 from currys 👍
