Hiring for two years, now an owner
I went to fill up the built-in LPG system as the LED Gas-IT indicator on the dash was showing just the one green dot - this was my first time ever using a petrol forecourt LPG pump.

We’ve used the gas quite a bit - van heating for five days over the festive break in December and many cuppas via the gas hob - and was astonished when the van took just 5.05 litres of LPG.

I thought the dealer told us at hand-over that the built-in tank holds 20 litres - if so, that dash indication is a mile off - but I can’t be sure either way. There’s a ton of stuff in the pack we got but no detail of it in the handbooks, and I called the dealer yesterday who hadn’t a scooby doo, nothing in their records either - but they are already on my ban list for other incompetence found only after our purchase from them, so no surprises there…

Anyone out there with a similar van, AutoTrail Tribute PVC of 2019 vintage on a Ducato base. Does the 20 ltr capacity sound right to you? If it’s only 5-6 litres it’s fine, we just need to figure out if it’s our memory or the dash gauge/indicator not calibrated - so we know for next time…

Your van must have an underslung tank? Just look underneath, measure the length of it and look online to get an idea of how many litres it might be. I think the one on my Autosleeper is between 20-25 litres.

According to the spec sheet you have a 25l under slung tank. You may have used less than you think or just getting used to filling it. Don’t be surprised if the indicators are not accurate, often find fresh and waste water ones all over the place as well

We now own Gas It and still supply Auto-Trail , as far as I am aware they have only ever fitted 25 Litre LPG tanks ( useable capacity @ 80% =20 Litres )
The level indicators aren’t very accurate especially on the small diameter tanks.
I always tell customers to wait until the red light comes on and they will find they still have between a third and a half tank left.
We had a dealer insist that they were given a warranty replacement tank for this problem recently, we refused but they managed to get a replacement for a demanding customer, surprise, surprise they were back in contact as the replacement tank was exactly the same 🤔⚠️🤬
Gas It always attached this sticker as gauges have been an issue for decades.
You will learn how to interpret your particular gauge / usage .

My V-Line pvc is very similar. 25 l underslung so about 20 l max gas. In practice it's around 19l if completely empty.

The led gauge is hopeless (as is the analogue one on the tank itself). There just isn't enough space in the tank on it's side fir the float to move. Even when it goes solid red there can be over 8 l lpg left.

I stopped worrying about how much gas I had left by getting Autogas 2000 to fit a second underslung. Takes some effort to burn through 50 l of lpg ;)

My Aztec must be the odd one out here, the guage for the underslung LPG tank is.........spot on!

When it shows a red lamp, I can get 19L in. And when its full, all the greens are on. Is mine unique?

You’ve obviously got a faulty one then 🤬😮😂😂😂😂
I believe your vehicle is actually fitted with a 30 litre tank so it would have a 25 Litre useable capacity @ 80%
Red light comes on well before empty as they were all originally designed for LPG automotive use .

How about that for a spot on response to a newbie’s query!! (y)

This is what I am really enjoying being on Funsters, I’ve asked and got my answer from about the most informed source likely to do so here - THANK YOU Basildog and other fellow Funsters for chipping in on this.

And a bonus learning on our gas consumption - it’s turned out to be around a quarter of what I had expected based on the gauge output, so I now have a far better handle on that as well… and far less interest in going gas free…:giggle:

Glad to be of assistance, hopefully it’s why we have such a good reputation .
Just remember to look after your Underslung LPG tank as they definitely aren’t fit and forget as too many seem to believe 👍

Yes, we have already found that our fresh and grey waste indicators are intermittent at best… we’re getting better at estimating those levels now anyway…

Same here we have two underslung tanks (25) & (30) litres. Both gauges are way off range between red light on for days or empty with one or two lights showing. How level the van is can have a large impact. That’s why we fitted the second tank, use the van a lot out of season and although nice and warm will scoff the gas.
