Hi All,
We are not so patiently waiting for our Apache 632 to be delivered to the dealer, it is supposed to arrive by the end of May and we placed the order at the NEC in February.
Is there anyone recently taked delivery from Auto Trail and was it on time?
Thanks in advance
Mike and Linda

I Make Schoolboy Errors!
At the NEC February I was told delivery on their PVCs was June. Had slipped to early July by the time my 540SE was confirmed in March.

Dealer has suggested that Autotrail have reduced staff to slow production to improve quality (a thread I saw a while ago suggested 10% layoffs). I take that with a pinch of salt as sales staff can say anything if they think it will help. However with the vocal comments of a few Funsters on issues they had in the last year or two I'd rather they took time to make things right, rather than rush, even though I do want my van yesterday.

Learning to appreciate what time we have left
Funnily enough...Asked about trading our 2016 Apache 634 in for a newer version and bigger. Told by three separate Motorhome dealers..Choose another brand! 2018/19 Auto trails are standing on various sites as they cannot be sold! Apparently no one wants a new or new ish Auto trail ? Trade in values have dropped through the floor.
Trust me! Having bought ours for a tidy sum a few months ago...it has now lost over 10k minimum as no one is buying the older stock! Older stock I say tongue in cheek! 10 K miles and all still under warranty!
Decided to keep ours now. Im blowed if i am to give it away as a trade in!

Just to add...Our Friends were to buy a new Auto trail from the Nec this year but decided to wait.
Two days ago they purchased 2018 Apache 632 with delivery miles only for ......£47k! What chance have any of us got if you want to move on? In 7 months nearly £15 k is being wiped off your truck! Wow!!

They pick it up 17th April. Why buy new?

From my experience with auto trail I would say take your chance to get your money back due to unacceptable delivery wait

You expect to lose a fair bit in initial depreciation but if the dealers are selling them at that price the trade in value has to be at least 8k lower!!!

Trouble with autotrail they build all the stock vehicles 1st. All the ordered vehicles are done last. That’s accountants running it for you.

I was told all caravan and motorhome manufactures do the same sort of thing. They get orders in then make them in batches rather than stop start different models.

Wont name the companies who valued ours for p/ex but they are top at their game so..when we had ours I went down the avenues of adding some extras purely because I wanted to make it a bit special for her indoors. She preferred Alloy wheels to the plastic cover trims...so it was done. She also wanted a better Satellite system so we had that sorted for her bless! There were some minor bits and pieces such as a camera installation for the 'Toad' and extra security stuff for me!
Now with all that stuff you would have thought that it would make it plausible to become a little better for the next person? Adding a little to its value maybe? It was and is done with taste so not like its on monster wheels and a 'Kodak Brownie' fitted on the rear for the 'toad' sticking out on a selfie stick!
Seriously...it was done to make it look better and more appealing to the eye. (Personally I believe it does any way)..
No..It. According to the 'Gods of all motorhomes'...people prefer to have the model as it is?
SO apparently, people prefer plastic trims to alloys.
Dont need a camera for rear view in times of towing
Dont need a better tv package etc etc!
So..for future reference to us all...do not add stuff to your motor homes because its not needed!
Wonder what the accessory shops would say?
SO ..I have digressed somewhat sorry. All the extra bits at £3879.56p exactly...i should remove before its sale.
Then they would offer me £35k as its book trade in! That is against anything up to £58k
SO..forget the £8k figures..they dont exist. You will lose (On Autotrails that is) a bloody fortune!

Looks like i may keep it a little while after all!

Always been the way, never get anything for extras you may have fitted.
Like the owners who washes and polishes their van every month, keeps it under cover or warm in winter. Come part ex time it's all down to trade book price and what the market is doing.

Had low offers on my 700 recently but lucky for me I had a good deal when I bought it so that helps me and reduces the loss.

We lost as you say "a bloody fortune" when we traded in out Tracker.

The Extra's added at purchase added nothing to the trade in price.

I think the trade has known for a bit they are nothing but trouble for them.

I would like to think you may be correct in your view but as with a previous thread on here where a company sold a Autotrail Imala from New and then due to circumstances beyond the owners control...offered them a ridiculous figure for it. Check out Tonka's thread You will see what I mean.

As regards dealerships around us..Funnily enough it was 2 from southern areas and 1 from the midlands ?
SO perhaps it was just that they did not want another Autotrail on their site? Who knows??

But was it really a 3k discount or 10k discount on the new one and 14k depreciation?. We had similar when we traded in our first m/h I'm sure they present it in a way that sounds more palatable especially if trying to shift stock. Also the depreciation has probably changed a lot its not long since the manufacturers seemed able to shift anything with wheels on.

I must admit if i look at a used private van for sale my way to value it would be to find the retail price, take off the 20% vat and then 5% per year. So 25% loss in year one... The longer you can keep a van the better, however new prices shoot up so just costs more for the next one.

A December purchase of a stock van with 20% discount means the shock will be taken out on my current van BUT have lost loads on past vans...

Whilst you may not have 'lost' a lot if you just sell the MH and don't buy another, if you do buy another the price increase on the new version of your existing MH 5 years later is why your existing MH has apparently 'held' its value - this price increase is the indicative depreciation figure you should use. As always it is the difference in price between what you have and what you are buying that is the important thing and gives the 'true' measure of depreciation.

Agree, I never ever understand why people leave stuff in MHs unless it's permanently fixed, TVs are an obvious extra that is often left and some leave Gaslow/Gasit cylinders etc which are expensive bits to replace and the whole point is that they are transferable.

And then the dealer takes them out and sell them separate.

I might agree other than at the end of it all there will be a final vaue and if you have not borrowed to buy it remains an asset at its current realisable value some of the difference to upgrade will be depreciation and some retained as increased value. I would argue that as we could decide tomorrow to sell as long as the current valuation is realistic the difference between that and the price paid is the depreciation. Of course the complication is if you buy again and trade in then you never know the true depreciation as its just the difference to change you are paying.
