Having just arrived in France it would appear from our Dutch neighbours that all Motor Motorhomes exceeding 3.500 kg GVW driving in France since January 2021. MUST display the ‘Attention Angles Morts’ signs on both Left & Right hand front and Right hand rear of the vehicle. Apparently these offences of failing to display these signs are punishable by fines either on the spot or by post ( or the guillotine ) ‘when your vehicle being captured on cameras’
We were lucky that our Dutch neighbours had a spare set which they kindly sold to us at cost ‘3 = £10’ available on line and guaranteed to make your camper look like a 40 tonne artic even if you have cameras all round.

Sounds similar to the requirement in France to have reflective stickers on motorcycle helmets... which is pretty much ignored.

Not sure if you wanted to but it looks like you’ve left the application tape on them.

Ignore the Dutch its more important what the French are doing themselves...

Also having them would mean not being able to claim being a camping car as class two going through Tolls although if you had removable ones you could just put on when not using tolls as they are for urban areas only.

Stupid question - could/would the French use the absence of these stickers as a potential indicator to target (presumed) 3500 motorhomes for weight checks?

How do they know if you're more than 3500kg?
A 10m Morelo or Concorde might be a bit of a giveaway. Generally the French regard all Motorhomes as 3500kg.

Ours looks like any other 3500kg Moho but is 4250kg. If non UK countries don't have access to vehicle data then I'll risk not fitting the stickers 😏

I wonder if you have a toll tag which is class 2 and someone notices that you have the stickers is that going to be a bit of a giveaway?

Which is the smaller fine? Not displaying stickers or illegal use of toll tag??

You might be fitting them to a 3500kg van because you are worried about your blind spots. 😁

I still dont understand how any cyclist that apparently cant see large vehicles is going to find that a 12x 8 sticker suddenly makes them visible again.

A better plan would be to require bicycles to have identification stickers so the small reckless element can be held to account.

It's not that they can't see the van it's that they don't realise the danger of not being seen by the driver as they could be in a blind spot. Lots of cyclists don't drive and sadly have had no road training.

True but what's your point?
It's true that a lot of cyclists don't know the rules of the road. But a lot of drivers don't understand why cyclists do what they do, or understand the effect they have on cyclist because they don't have a lot of experience cycling on the road.

E.g. it's very frustrating to be riding towards lights, to be overtaken by a vehicle that then immediately hugs the kerb, so when the light change to red I have to go around them. I'm within my rights to go past you, so why did you block me?

. maybe the cars turning left ?

Which ones are required with picture of a truck or picture of a coach or will either be accepted?

Maybe. But if they are close enough to the junction to have placed themselves in the gutter to turn left, they probably ought to be indicating too. And I shouldn't be getting the same treatment the next set of lights when the same car does it to me again.

Ah, I drive and cycle as well. At the risk of starting ANOTHER one of my famous (in my own mind :winky:) contentious discussions, I sometimes can't understand why cyclists insist on going around a vehicle which has just overtaken them only to be stopped by a traffic light. When the light goes green I would rather that vehicle still be in front of me as that's one less that can kill me. Unless your one of those cyclists that then rides through a red light? I had this happen to me just a while ago, three times at three different traffic lights, same cyclist only me and him on the road, each time I had to trail along behind him until it was safe to pass. Why? If I had been someone prone to road rage I would probably been less careful when passing the third time !

Are people really that stupid? I dont thi k so.

Lots of drivers have no cycle experience.
What's the difference the rules are the same?

You have no entitement to overtake on the inside. When you exit your house with a bike you have 2 choices. stay on the pavement walking it as a pedestrian or use the road.
Once in the road you are subject to the same rules as cars ,vans, & motrobikes. No overtaking on the inside & that incldes what is laughinly called "filtering" - ant to overtake it is indicate & down the outside.

Really, I see it almost every day cycling or driving around Cardiff . The number of people that ride? squeeze down the inside of buses and trucks at traffic lights is frightening
