2015 Auto-Trail V600
Exp
8 years motohoming and counting
We have a weekend away planned and while our van ( Auto Trail V600 - Fiat) was on the drive yesterday afternoon preparing for our trip, someone has attempted to break in. Looks like they tried to prise off the drivers door quarter glass but ended up breaking pieces off top & bottom & shattering the glass. I only noticed at 6pm when closing the window blinds. Insurance sorting out a replacement but bad news… National windscreens dont carry stock and earliest would be Monday. 🙁. I cant see the door mirror so not risking driving. So having to abandon our short trip.

I have heos door locks ( but not locked as I was in & out of the van during the day) but the van was locked and alarm set. Plus my tracker has a feature where I can disable the starter by phone & I always have that activated when its on the drive as we live on a main road.its normally kept in storage.

We were in the kitchen at 15:24 when the alarm went off & I got a notification on my phone. I went out to reset it thinking I had somehow set it off accidentally as I had the keys in my hand at the time. Nothing untoward and noone about. So came back in then pottered in the van until 6pm. It was only when I was closing the blinds I noticed the quarter pane in the drivers door was shattered!

Insurance / National windscreens unable to help at that time so drove it the 3 miles back to storage for safe keeping.

Hey ho. At least the damage isn’t serious but annoying nevertheless. Glad it wasn't taken and glad the alarm scared the scrote off. I think he ( & I say “he” due to the size 10 boot prints left in the soil on the drivers side) may have also have been disturbed as people are walking by all the time.

The cheek of it and in broad daylight! We have a Ring doorbell but also have a porch pillar that completely obscured the offside of the van. We have scoured the footage but nothing visible.

I’ve been planning to add cctv for a few months so that has now moved up the todo list. We are renovating the house we bought last year so lots on the go!

Sorry to hear this. Can you not use a piece of perspex as a temporary fix so you can continue with your trip? I'm my mind, that would be a small win from a horrible situation

Sorry to see this sad report. Brazen scrote, breaking into the van in broad daylight. What a rotten thing to happen. This country is becoming increasingly lawless.

Strange way to try and get in……usually it’s something like this……July this year. Now got Deadlocks fitted.

I'm fitting an IMOU LOOC camera next door this afternoon, they're good and only £38 on ebay 👍

Sorry to hear that ,I trust you advised the police so that they can add it to thier database and keep an eye out for similar events.mght be worthwhile to park facing in for a few weeks whilst at home.

He's taken it back to the storage site.

I have just fitted two of these after recommendation from other Fun users,
very pleased with the results, no false alarms even though it’s been windy and wet,
Amazon product ASIN B09L89DLLP

Stuff like this is rife isn’t it and yes we were lucky to get off lightly I suppose compared to others.

Hadnt thought of perpex! Good idea.

National Windscreens just called & glass on order for delivery & fitting Tuesday pm. We can reschedule our short trip to the Cotswolds for next week and whist we will lose tonights pitch fee, paid in advance (£22), I think it might end up costing near that by the time I source , buy & fit the perpex which will probably take me a good few hours. Thx for the tip though. I might actually buy and shape a couple of pieces & get some some vhb tape to keep just in case. NW said body glass is rarely fitted hence very low stock. If it was the windscreen we would have been on our way by now 🙄

Yes police advised - local PCSO is very proactive round here & we get weekly newsletters by email. He can add our incident to his records. Van is in back storage now

Trouble parking other way the rear doors are out of sight and vulnerable🤔

I contacted the camp site and they agreed to let us move the booking to next weekend so no loss of pitch fee 👍🏻😁. Very kind of them I thought.

B’stards!

I’m thinking of deadlocks for sliding & rear doors plus doir handle shields & something to easly lock & release from inside when sleeping.

Hold on, I’ll dig out a couple of my threads, covering outside and inside. My wife made up the ones for inside. (y)

The Deadlocks are ideal as they only open from the outside, and no electric’s involved. (y)
