Well this was a first. (long rant)

Called at the local pub and ordered food as you sometimes do when out in your moho. A number of irritating things happened
1) 40 min wait for a chicken burger and gammon meal
2) No cutlery, had to request twice from waiting staff
3) Asked if extra sauces wanted but they never came.
I didnt complain about any of these, but when asked if everything was ok, I did explain to the girl that the hard piece of chicken within the wizzened piece of chiabata was inedible. I could have knocked nails in with it!

They offered to replace but after a further 40 mins I asked for the bill and they did remove the meal from the bill, they did however add 2 extra pints that we never had that were also removed prior to payment.

On leaving hubby said we would come back again for drinks outside but not food and messaged the owner with our experience when we got back to the moho as he wast in the pub at the time.

The response he got was that it would be better if we did not return at all, as he had spoken to the staff and I had eaten half the meal before I complained ( I had chipped a bit of chicken off the edge that was so dry it disintegrated in.my mouth and half the chiabatta smothered in mayo to soften it!)

I really wish I had taken photos!

Rant over!

And the pub is?

They did ask ! so why he got so uppity. He sounds like an arse, listening to cocky staff comments.

I dont go out of my way to complain, but when Im asked I always give an honest assesment and without trying to be an arse if its bad I tell them so. (I spent 10 years managing various high standard hotels)
then its up to them how they react as to whether Im a return customer or not.

What pub please... You've put his side of the argument so he can't complain.

Might as well name and shame now.

After that experience we just wouldn't return.

I do let people know what has gone well and what hasn't as if they don't know they can't put things right - after more years than I want to count in the hospitality industry (senior manager but always did a few shifts in the kitchen, servery and waiting plus getting in the way of the housekeeping staff every 3 months or so) I know that feed back is essential if one is to improve.

I definitely wouldn't be back and would have complained earlier, also, I always ensure I put a tripadvisor review up.

Typical defensive response.
Genuine and polite feedback met with a “ don’t bother coming back then “ reply .

Not exactly a great businessman .
What’s the name of the pub ?

I must have been very lucky or don't get out enough, but I have never been to a pub or restaurant where I have found something to complain about

We had a similar problem and issue at one campsite in Eire. I left a review on Trustpilot and got a lot of abuse back from the site - agaon on Trustpilot. I let the reply stand as an example of the way they treat their customers.

I do know someone who is a compulsive complainer. I wouldn't mind if his wife or himself could cook but it does make eating out for them a bit more affordable :giggle:

Unless asked to go to a certain restaurant with someone else we always go to the places we know or have looked at the reviews or if out and about have a look at what other people are eating and how much is left on their plates before ordering, never gone wrong yet.
But saying this when we are abroad we always waste a lot of time looking at menus and stuff.

Masons Arms in Bishop Monkton. Phone coverage is also pretty ropy as I was sure I updated the thread with the pub name yesterday! Trip advisor & google reviews will be done today, now back home.

Surprised you gave it 2stars on Google, I'd have only given it 1.

And the bit that I didnt put on my review as it was mearly an observation, was that the lady sat on the table next to us ordered a chick pea burger and as we were leaving she was presented with the 2nd cajun chicken burger that came out to us after I had asked for the bill, which was returned to the kitchen. Needless to say, she returned it also..

Many years ago i was out for A meal with my son (chef) sent meal back as potatoes didn't taste right, was brought a new meal and thought the same, son tasted said spuds, MUM they are boiled not steamed and are fine, i was most apologetic to the staff and we managed to have a bit of a laugh about it.
Son always says if it is not right say at the start, if venues don't know there is a fault how can they rectify it.

I have occasionally had to complain and rarely send food back - never liked doing it as concerned about what has been done to the replacement, had to in an Italian restaurant last month when the lasagne was cold in the middle - i had to return it and said to my husband it will be nuked when it returned and was pleasantly surprised that it was perfect. Waiter informed me the chef had forgotten to “prod” it to check temperature and apologise. I would of been angry if they had said well you had eaten part of it (outside and some chips). The fact the manager argued means it will never improve
