There seems to be a clear class difference on the forum, it’s very apparent that there are a lot of lower class, with a few who have always been a higher class, and some realising they have had enough of being lower class with the restrictions that brings and move up a class, there are also some who would never dream of being a lower class and some that will never be able to be up a class due to age and health or licence restrictions. As I found out there are also people who don’t want to be up a class and change to go lower class! There may even be some royalty on here over 7,500kg so interested to know how they got there and why ?

So where do you fit in, are you happy being lower class, or do you dream of being up a class like me? ?

Maybe you could share your weight and payload class issues and any wishes you would have if a fairy could wave a wand ?

I will start:
596
PHGV 4,850kg
Payload 1,422kg
Very very happy up a class

I'm quite happy being in a class of my own ...... I don't feel the need to belong to any of your classes ..... especially the so called "up a" class, those in the "upper" class just have further to fall when the ? hits the fan!

Up a class with a SWIFT,,you are having a laf.BUSBY??

Happy with the class we’re at. Just two humans & two small furry things in a four birth.
Haven’t had any storage concerns so far in our early ownership.
Can’t say never though. Maybe up a class with a future MH i.e, no upgrade of existing
~3tonnes max weight for our Compass

Just gone up a class but down plating as to many problems up there.???

Ours is a pvc so I guess a class will view it as passengers in steerage.......but it’s a Hymer..... To be perfectly honest whatever you have it’s yours and it will be comfy and homely and as long as it’s FUN who cares.

I was very happy with my last Motorhome until I realised the previous owner (9yrs ago!) had changed to lower class, I tried to move up a class but as I am in the LEZ and it was a Euro 3 would have needed loads of emission filters that would cost a small fortune, plus if the mayor had changed the classes allowed in London it could have become illegal in a year or so, took the decision to bite the bullet and bought new, got a 4,250 as we carry dive gear and upgraded to 4,850 so now a huge safety factor of extra 422 payload we don’t require at the moment but it’s there if needed e.g. run full of water ?. We will keep this one until our annual 6 week family commitment in the SofF every year finishes.

My reason for the post is to highlight weight issues, I never knew the ins and outs when I bought mine, the V5C said nothing all I had was a plate showing 3,850kg and a manual showing the same, then when I went to upgrade from 3,850kg to 4,000kg for the extra 150kg got a huge surprise when I found another plate hidden away showing 3,500kg, it had been downplated! That didn’t affect safety but if pulled over could have been fined ?. Now totally legal with spare payload ?

I'm up a class but mother is lower class due to her class rights being taken away at 70 ?

Must admit at first view, thought I won’t bother reading but then spotted WEIGHT and it makes sense.?

Ain't got no class (trigger warning - not for those of a sensitive nature)

Did you react and open the thread when you saw the title and who the poster was hoping for another rant at him?

I must admit I did. He is very controversial in his postings but never come anywhere near rule one yet.

I think he’s brought as breath of fresh air to the forum.

Jim has given us the ability to read or ignore, those that don’t like either 596 or his posting have the choice

I will take your rather convoluted question at face value, assuming I have understood it that is,

PHGV 6000kg
X factory MIRO 4600kg
Payload 1400kg
fully loaded with options and personal belonging for a big trip 5600kg
All moved along by 4 driven wheels (y)

I don't care what class as long as it's "A class" and we are having fun.

Swings and roundabouts.
We uprated our tardis (van) and travel with easier mind as a result.
On the other hand it means lower speed limits abroad.
We haven’t worried too much about 3,5T signs and have been classed as Class 2 on Tolls, despite having applied for our CritAir after uprating.

I have applied for my CritAir and they sent me a copy by email, I see I got a yellow 2 which is the same as my Land Cruiser, I guess if I’m under 3m they will still class me as a 2 at the peage, I had a roof box on my old lower class this year and got hammered as a 3, I contacted them and was refunded after emailing a copy of my V5C and manufacturers height confirmation, but did get over 150 Euros back ?
