I've spent most of the day googling without much success.
From the Auto-trail owners club site, the fiat hand book is out of date and specifies oil for the Euro 5.

I have found out I need SAE 0W-30 ACEA C2 with a specification of 9.55535-DS1 but I am finding it difficult to find a suitable oil and supplier.

I have found a couple of suggestions that may be suitable.

Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0w-30 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil ( I have no hard facts to back up its suitability).

And also

SAE 0W-30 ACEA C2 with a specification of 9.55535-DS1 entitled Selenia WR Forward (info from autotrail owners site).

So if anyone has further info of suitable oils, please add the name of oil and a supplier.

BTW, Some suggestions expect to burn 1 litre of oil every 500 miles so I could do with carrying a gallon / 5L of the stuff!

Boring thread i know but it might help others!

Burning a litre of oil for every 500 miles sort of defeats the point of Euro 6 engines, might as well run it on used chip oil and throw in any old mineral oil as good stuff aint going to be doing any good.

only their web site for parts but they don't list oils. Also I'm trying to avoid main dealer prices!

I don't know the truth of the 500m /L . Mine has 500 on the clock now and the dash oil indicator has dropped a little.

I did 10000 miles in the first 12 months and I've checked the oil level regularly and I've added 100ml. Hafrauds ,Euro car Parts etc should be able supplie the correct oil.

Opie Oils appear to have a wide range of options from the budget fully synthetic through to the Premium brands.

Same oil for my 2016 fiat........and i think mine is euro 5
There is a change of oils to suit the particle filters on the Euro 6. Its definitely different. I don't want to invalidate any warranty by putting the wrong stuff in.

Buy it from Fiat then, problem solved, and ask them about the 500 mile thing, perhaps you are mixing it up with Adblue consumption.

Confusing or what?

May 17 is definitely Euro 6 build, applies to all output from August 16

That oil depletion rate of 500ml every 600 miles is just absurd. Thank goodness I didn't wait for the Euro 6 engine build, I was well advised to keep away from it until they had sorted out the bugs

6,000 miles on 500ml of oil so far on my 5+

The oil is exactly the same stuff.......the part number Is the same up to DS1. Rather than S1

The important part is SAE 0W-30 ACEA C2

So for the oil experts here, what is the difference between DS1 and S1??

Hi I'm a newbie, so bear with me! This is a minefield! I am currently in France on a shaky wi-fi.
Spent over 5 hours on Friday trying to sort this issue; I checked the handbook, spoke with two Fiat dealers; with conflicting answers, contacted Fiat in Italy and also spoke with a great knowledgeable guy in Castrol.
In conclusion? the specification of the oil for the Euro6 engines is very new and very precise. At this time Castrol cannot supply an approved oil and suggested I should actually go to Fiat dealership and make sure they supply the oil.
I ended up driving on a Friday afternoon to a Fiat dealership at Slough, West London...that's not good!
That dealership was great; they put in my (new) registration number and had the right 10w 30 oil. Other Fiat dealerships did say over e phone that they just used 20W 50 as for the Euro 5 engines???
I now have a receipt and the oil cans!!.
The days of putting in ay old oil are long gone! Fiat apparently will check your oil specification if you have a catastrophic engine failure.
I have only used about a third of a litre in 2500 miles; about par for the course for a new engine.
Best of luck and keep your warranty.

I'd always ring Rex at Horrelsford Garage near Holsworthy, Fiat main dealers with a great attitude to customer service.

Although oil consumption of up to a litre per 600 miles is stated as acceptable the reality it that the consumption is likely to be 10 times less than that.
One litre bottle of genuine Fiat oil is going to be approx £20 from a main dealer.
Assuming you only want the right oil for topping up you may as well buy one rather than try to save a few pounds on a similar product and end up justifying its use should you have an engine problem.
If you are buying enough to do a total oil change then you may void the warranty completely as you will not be servicing it to the Fiat recommendations.

I thought that Fiat, unlike my Peugeot and most other makes, don't use Adblue.

The 1 litre per 500 miles has been around for years, nothing to do with Euro6,its a cop out by the manufacturers that means that if yours does use oil, if its less than that , it is considered 'acceptable' ... ie.. you wont be getting a new engine out of us.

As for oil grades, manufacturers will go out of their way to recommend an oil that only their OEM supplier makes (in this case Selinia) , Yamaha always says 'Yamalube' because only dealers sell it, but nobody ever uses it.

Your Fiat dealer will use bulk oil from a tank in everything, we used Helix , or Helix Plus if the customer asked.

As long as its the right grade 0w/30 or whatever, its fine.. Decent brand for peace of mind, but i have used Miller Oils for ages from my local Factor and never had any kind of issue... that said my road car had run on oil out of my bike for years and never missed a beat .. folk worry too much IMO.
