Over the last week I have had lots of timeout problems and crashes accessing mainly itv player but also iplayer and other uk tv apps.
I am using a firestick with smartdnsproxy, it has been working fine for months, but suddenly lots of problems, i did wonder if it was the increased traffic due to all the increased interest in the queens death, but contacted smartdnsproxy and they say no, we haven't noticed a general problem with the Internet, but to be honest we tend to use our phones for general browsing etc.
We are currently being upgraded to fiber in the area so maybe that has something to do with it, but i have run all the diagnostic tests from our isp and it says all is fine.
Although smartdnsproxy is not as secure as a vpn, i like it becouse it doesn't involve a locally loaded program, so you can use it on anything that has a network connection.

What vpns do people use on firestick? preferably one that is free so i can see if it makes any difference without forking out money just for a test.

Living in Spain, we also need a VPN for BBC and ITV, although we do have a subscription for something that we can watch without a VPN.
I`ve used several while living here, the best i`ve found is Nordvpn, not free but worth the cost.

They will have been instructed say no lol .
You are completely right . I bet things improve over the next week . It’s just too much of a coincidence 👍🏻

We have nordvpn been great up to this last two weeks. Can't get on ITV. Cannot get I player, we are away in mh so nothing to do with fibre. Hope someone can come up with a solution for us.

I think you are right, the response i received was too direct a denial. Yet when the satelite system changed and loads of expats lost the ability to receive a signal so moved to internet use, there was also a big problem with timeouts etc.

That time i contacted them and asked if the problem was due to the sudden uptake of tv via internet, and I received an honest reply of yes that is exactly the reason and the were currently installing new servers as quickly as posible but it could be several weeks before the problem clears.

I am more than happy with an answer like that, becouse I know that it will go away in time, and I am not wasting my time looking for problems that dont exist.

We just use our phones and its been fine but got a lot of buffering and time outs yesterday watching the funeral so just put it down to lots of people around the world using BBC to watch as I think it was made available for that.

I read that they were expecting about 4.1 billion viewers of the funeral, obviously not all connecting directly to the uk, it was being rebroadcast by local tv in most countries.

I used Express vnp. Worked well.

I live outside the UK. Can I use BBC iPlayer?

No. BBC iPlayer is funded by the UK TV licence and its use is restricted to UK residents only.
If you want to stop someone doing something like this illegally, rather than spend a fortune on a fruitless task of trying to block it, sort out a licencing agreement and copyright issues, so that you can provide a legal chargable service. In turn providing new revenue that can be used to provide an even better programming.

We watch through a VPN and this past week programs have just crashed at any point and it's gone back to the home screen. This is at home, the wifi has also been shocking this last week as well just dropping out constantly.

Probably worth repeating again for anyone not aware but if you are using a sim card purchased in the UK you don't need a VPN to watch BBC, ITV and Channels 4 and 5.

They did

No one paid!

Having said that, the Numbers are tiny in relation to the millions watching in the UK which is the BBC’s intended market.

1) Media is geo locked because the media is sold per country. For example, a Spanish broadcaster would arrange/pay to be the local source of BBC content.
Sport especially is sold in media blocks to individual national broadcasters.
2) media is geo locked so the network quality can be optimised. For latency etc.
Routing via a VPN takes that network quality control away from the broadcasters.

Used Surfshark in the Faroes and could get everything but BT Sports.

Change the UK server in Nordvpn, they have loads to choose from, occasionally some go down or get blocked.
