So we are in utrecht until tomorrow morning
Then we have a couple of weeks left so we want to go into France
We love water lakes rivers sea and would be nice to be able to swim in it
Any advice on what way to go please because I know a lot of you love France
Thanks in advance

we tried to get into the aire at Charleville late one afternoon but it was rammed .a quick look in the aires book found us headed for Lac des Vieilles Forges, France got there in the dark heater wouldnt work it was freezing cold so went to bed when we opened the blinds in the morning we were amazed at the view of a beautiful lake with swimming spots and boat hire. there's a sports center and swimming pool as it was cold and we were homeward bound we didnt explore much but weve always said we would return in summer

Thank you just had a look and it looks a great place to start

Lac du Der is also very nice but maybe too far south of Paris? We stayed here

Thank you that looks lovely too and we don't mind the travel I always wanted to go to the verdon gorge do you think that is to far for 2 weeks

We love the area around Biscarosse in SW France...probably our favourite site is in Navarosse directly on the lake (there's a couple of pictures in my profile).

Some people may say that's too far...but it'd be absolutely fine for us. But we can easily do 2,000 miles in 2 weeks.

Oooh that looks really nice we loved South West but only got as far as royan last time
And could possibly use the other suggestions on the way I will have to get ipad out this evening thank you

2 weeks is plenty to get down there and back but nowhere near enough to look around all the other stuff in that area. That needs a month down there just around the Vaucluse never mind popping over to the ardeche or Northern Provence or the coast.
With just 2 weeks I might be tempted with the Alsace from where you are, possibly include Lac de der ( Riverbankannie post) and a bit of Belgium french border along the meuse and other tributaries (if you have bikes)

If you do a google search on maps you can generally find the Plan D'eau s which are either swimming or fishing lakes. TO determine the difference on satellite view look at the size of the car parks. When you return buy the 2nd edition of Wild Swimming in France book and you will not be disappointed in the 1000+ spots all over france.
If you decide to go to an area bung me a pm and I can show you the spots in that area to go wild swimming eg look up cascades du Herrison and the lakes around there.

Thanks I did think if I got as far as verdon gorge I would be gutted that I didn't have longer so will leave that for later years

A word of caution. The French and water are like magnets. August is the main French holiday season. You may find that anywhere near water will be heaving.
Totally agree.

2 weeks is fine. We have 2 week max holidays and have driven down from Scotland twice to South of France, once down Mosel then to Bavaria. Longer would be amazing but we have what we have and make the most of it.

Don't like busy thanks so will have to keep a eye on that
It's very busy for the cycling here in utrecht but got a nice place 4k out of city

The North East corner if you fancy some WW 1 type of history….. or whizz down to the Alsace for gorgeous cute villages and tasty affordable wine. The Alsace wine route is along the way with Aires every few miles so you can cycle and sample the wine 🍷 safely 🙂

(and Alsace not so busy in August as the rest of France)

A few details here……. https://wolfydoesfrance2014.blogspot.com/2014/08/alsace-wine-routecolmar-e7.html

The blog is from our first trip to Alsace a few years ago, there are other pages to see if you just check the menu on the top right of the blog👍

We have been in the ww1 and ww2 areas a bit already and I find it hard to get excited by wine but if you knew a nice beer route then that would be a winner
Thanks for chipping in though it's amazing how big france is when you start choosing where to go
