Any tips on replacing an IR remote (1 Viewer)

Morning all, I have a Maxview satellite receiver which works perfectly except that the remote has suddenly packed up. I've checked the batteries and they are fine but when I view the end of the remote through my phone camera I can see that it is not sending any IR signal. All I can do via the buttons on the receiver itself is change channel. When I need to change satellite I will be stuffed.

I need to get a replacement but Maxview don't do them any more and suggested a generic controller. Has anyone any experience of using these with Maxview satellite receivers? When I last tried one with a B&O TV I found it wasn't one of the models supported and I anticipate the same problem with Maxview. I know that there are also phone apps for this.

I have seen one on eBay but as I'm on tour until May I was looking for a generic solution...if possible.
