I'm sure something like will have been posted many times but I've just been phoning around for a quote for our new MOHO and having given exactly the same details to Lifesure and to Clubcare (the C&CC insurers) they both came back with Ageas as being the best quote they have. Trouble is, Lifesure's quote is £248 and Clubcare's is £446. I've made sure both had no legal cover, no breakdown cover, no other add-ons so that I could compare like-for-like so it leaves me wondering how/why the vast difference. Another mystery of the modern world...

Simply vote with your wallet & go for the cheaper option.
Same goes for the following year, ringing around can save a considerable amount of money.

I don't think that anyone in the insurance industry has a real brain in their head.
You'd think they'd want to keep loyal & careful customers on side & on their books but, no.

As you say "Another mystery of the modern world".

My insurance renewal was a further £80 from. Last year and even more restrictions.. The renewal states,
"You have been with us for a number of years. You may be able to get the insurance cover you want at a better price if you shop around."
I did and saved another £110 off my existing price. (y)

Agree it seems surprising.

My underwriter is also Ageas and I have a particular insurance requirement and it was the only company out of dozens that would help. I wanted cover to store the van securely indoors in Spain for 6 months of the year - no other underwriter I could find would consider it. Additionally, I negotiated a total single European trip length of 8 months, instead of the standard 6 on the policy. So we can fly back and forth through the winter to use the van in warmer climes.

I used an broker - Advance Insurance, in Wiltshire.

https://advanceinsurance.co.uk/motorhome-insurance/

The premium was OK the first year, but included a significant upfront fee for Advance I recall. The second year the premium reduced and I think I'm paying around £360 this time, which I consider OK for the cover I've got.

But if I were you, provided the policy you've mentioned includes everything you need, then the lower priced option sounds like the one to go for. Unfortunately, it sounds as though the C&CC are being greedy...

Good luck! (y)

Bear in mind that all these folk have targets to meet and many years ago, and I suspect still today, one measure of success was "how much new business have you written?".

So getting new customers is great but retaining current business is less important.

However, my reading of the OP "complaint" was that both quotes were with the same group of underwriters.

Indeed, this isn't a complaint as such, just more bewilderment...same van, same details, within 20 minutes of each of other, returning the same insurance company, but the 'discounting' club quote is almost £200 more expensive.
If nothing else, it shows it really does pay to shop around, as one could easily think "Caravan and Camping Club" with members' discount...must be ok so I'll take it and save the hassle of contacting others.

I assume it’s their cut for handling the transaction. They can make that up to whatever they want. I was with Adrian Flux. Phoned them with a cheaper renewal and he said that’s cheapest they can do and was happy I went elsewhere. C&MC just offered me £195 so saved £50 and moved Companies. The only time and this was on my car that I had a renewal that was cheaper any other quotes I searched for was with Quite Me Happy. That’s how it should be if they want you to stay.

Just had my renewal in from the C&MC, £258 + £12.50 handling fee.

Just had my £329.74 renewal come through from Lancaster Insurance which is 38% more expensive than I paid last year.

I can get the same level of cover from Advance Saver for £249.40.

A no brainer, as they say.

Whether home, cars, motorbikes, travel, the increases (no claims or change of circumstances) force me to shop around at every renewal. It's a farce.
The only exception is my m/h with Comfort (now £265) which has only increased more or less by inflation during 7 years with them.

Try CaravanGuard. I found them to be the best by far when researching last year. They also included recovery/breakdown in their figure too!

May 2019 was the first time I insured my 2007 Elnagh 2.8JTD I think I got two or three quotes but decided on Comfort. Not the cheapest but they seemed to have a better cover. Post code can be a killer but in my case it was the lack of no claims bonus that added the £££ (I was hoping my cars max no claims would have helped but no chance) and the little shunt I had back in 2015 didn't go down too well either. The funny thing is by adding my daughter to the policy it did reduce the quote but not by much. I didn't even know it had a Sigma alarm. If I'd piped up about that I may have scored a few more brownie points. Oh yes, the cost was £420 + £62 for UK & EU breakdown cover. This year my diving mishap will have been spent and hopefully I will have earnt one whole years NCB so if my renewal shoots up as is the norm I will be phoning the insurers mentioned on this thread and see what they come up with. Thanks for the heads up

Each broker will have a set if scheme rates and will have agreed what they can and cannot write at what price. One will be better than the other for a certain criteria and visa verse depending on circumstances.
Thats the reason why its different
Strange but true
Thats also why prices diff between different insurers each have their sweet spot if you hit it superb. If you dont may be expensive.

Also check excesses and cover. Just because same insurer quotes from 2 different brokers do not mean will be exactly same policy.

As for thr wording "if you shop around you may find it cheaper" or words to that effect. This was enforced a while ago by thr FCA to ensure people knew they could do this.
It amazes me how do not shop around. Not saying need to do it annually but atleast every 3 years.

Its not greed its just business.

All i will say to finish if just because its cheaper does not mean to say its same cover, you need to check it, you dont always get what you asked for. Check the small print.

Last Year, CCC renewal £439-18. Shop around. Best CC, £376-16. And that with a Minor mishap with SWMBO`s Car to report.
