That to undo all nuts on pipes supplying my gas hob Are

opposite to the normal way of un doing them? The nuts I am trying to undo seam to be sealed with some sort of red sealer. Could I melt the sealer off with a hair dryer all gas turned off

No the threads on joint are normal right hand thread not like the gas bottle threads that are left hand.

All fittings are right hand thread apart from propane cylinder connections. Red sealer will be red lead,I have not seen this used for years, it sets very hard, make sure you clean it all off before reconnecting. Some will say not to use any sealer on compression fittings, I recommend jet blue, lightly smeared on the olive,I also recommend a copper olive not brass olive.

If you value your van (and, maybe, your life) I'd get a gas fitter to do the job for you.
You've said, elsewhere, that you'll get it passed-off by an authorised person.
They may do the lot for a small additional charge over their basic call-out charge.
Know your limitations.

Thanks for you help and advice all taken on board.

More likely to be used as markers applied after the joints have been made and tested, to make sure joints do not move or are tampered with. That is what the ones in my Hymer appear to be for.

Yes that is quite normal. Just undo them and the "paint" just falls away. Clean up before reconnecting.

Loctite 542 is a red coloured pipe sealant for hydraulic and pneumatic fittings, it does a good job of sealing and stops fittings working loose through vibration. Maybe they've used something like this on your pipework ? The best way to loosen it is to "shock" it by holding something like the side face of a club hammer against the fitting and give it a couple of smart taps with a smaller hammer (if you have the space to get in)

Most left hand threaded nuts used for gas are marked with the small grooves in the face edge like the picture.

PLEASE be careful. :(. Something like gas could be fatal for you if you make a mistake.

A good friend of mine, now passed on was on a gas board road crew. He was entered into their national competition, to find the best and fastest crew and won more than once. A guy with decades of experience to say the least. You would regularly see him digging up the road with a cigarette hanging from his mouth. He always lit it once the repair joint was made. Not one single time did it go bang or catch fire. But i wouldn't recommend trying it yourself

I used to tell customers "boilers don't blow up often, normally it's only once" 😄

Mate, that red stuff is Stag paste it sets rock hard, don’t you know a gas fitter who would have a quick look. He must be lpg qualified if you want him to work on it though. BTW what area are you. I use grips for undoing compression fittings one pair on the fitting and one on the nut.
