Hi weve had an ih j1000 for a year now really happy with the van just not sure about the fridge its a dometic rm8551 the freezer works really well but the fridge wont go under 10oC with an outside temp of 20oC (on gas) is this the norm? On 240 the fridge is even worse but freezer ok.

Something is wrong. They should be able to cool lower than that.

Not sure if yours is like one I had in a Swift Bolero. It was an upright fridge/freezer I think it was a Thetford.
Anyway, the thermostat arrangement was very basic, in that it did not monitor both fridge and freezer. The problem was similar to your issue, in that one could be cold and the other warm.
I found that when getting ready for a trip away and wanting the freezer cold, I had to place a jug of hot water in the fridge to jolt the thermostat to operate the unit.
A most unsatisfactory arrangement in my view.
It needed separate thermostats for fridge and freezer to function as expected.
When ambient temperature was close to freezing it would nothing although the freezer needed to be -18??

Could be the thermal transfer paste behind the cooling element.
It's apparantly an easy fix which works.
