Been told we need to have the fluid changed in our Alde heating which is coming up for 2 years but after doing a very swift search and finding someone local they have quoted £250 . It was £185 but when i told them it was a Rapido 10000 they upped the cost as they mention it was a large vehicle which would take longer and more fluid. They are quoting to put back in the 5 year fluid and not the 2 year one if that helps.

What have others paid and is that a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance.

i would say do it yourself, but not a simple task

£200 at Alde HQ Wellingborough free overnight stop the night before (y)

And they’ll check the whole system over as well.

I have heard a lot of people complaining about the cost of changing the fluid.

I think its not a bad price.
Not complaining I am trying to find out if that is reasonable. So far it is not that far off but it raises an alarm when I was quoted one price then it went up by £65. Hence why I am asking to see if that is a fair price.

We had a mobile engineer do our Alde fluid change to the 5 year version in Sept - cost was £150. He used a complicated pump and tube mechanism to drain the old fluid and simultaneously introduce the new. Believe this can only be done if your system has two pipes to the expansion tank.

The guy we used was Sean of S&G Caravan Services.

Not a bad price .I think it's extortionate it's the same as paying £100 pa to change the central heating fluid on home c/heating what with 50mot 350 ins 250 tax 300 service 250 hab check it's all pay pay pay I'll have to stop going to the Bahamas for a month and stay in Spain.

Go to alde. About £200 with 5 year fluid. They'll check the system as well.
You can overnight there. They have hook up and very quiet.

Why is it necessary to change the the fluid?
Jim
No idea just been told by dealer and I am sure it's in the alde book. Someone will know the reason for sure on here

the fluid is 2 components, the antifreeze and a corrosion inhibitor, which only has a limited life

I wouldn't use him, had a fridge fault sorted by them on the last van. Clumsy not very careful bashing tools on the van. I had to shown him how to put the burner back in.
Other Funsters have had similar experiences.

Ok, thanks I will keep looking.

If you can get there I would certainly recommend going to Alde at Wellingborough. They know the system inside out, have all the equipment and are nice people to deal with.

Not sure I buy this one , so long as no fluid has been added there will be nothing to promote corrosion.

I bought the Alde pump second hand to do our Hymer now coming up to 2 in April,
Then found out Hymer only have one pipe to the header tank and no T piece in the system.
So it was off to Alde Wellingbough nice people took over 4 hours with a totally different type of pump and fitted the necessary T piece £220

It would have been an easy job had Hymer fitted a T piece.

They don't seem to advertise on there site that they do the servicing. They seem to list all the resellers that you can contact

No, I know you are not. I was stating that many complain about the price to change the fluid. I guess, some of whom will of paid €*********** for their motorhome. Then begrudge someone making a living carry out a service.

The issue is the aluminium pipes used by Alde, they do corrode and it can ruin the boiler

Aluminium pipes! that's asking for trouble , I wonder why they don't use plastic.
Jim
This is an explanation of material choice in Automobile radiators, nicked from the internet.

Martin

Aluminum weighs much less than copper-brass but is still much more durable than the same. It also has a high thermal conductivity hence can absorb the heat faster. So when coolant passes through Aluminum tubes, it gets cooled quickly as the tubes absorb the heat.

Aluminum is naturally more expensive than plastic, but most high-end automobiles utilize Aluminum radiators instead of Plastic ones

I didn't know about the 2 year fluid change., 4 years on and
I've booked the van into Alde .
Hope everything's ok when they look. What alerted me to it was the bubbling sound the system was making .
They quoted £200 which includes a look at the whole system . Tad cheaper than the other quote I got I.e. Double.

Recommended G12+ or G13 antifreeze around £15 to £20 for 5 ltr.
Same as VW antifreeze among others.
Stick it in an Alde bottle and triple the price.

Mixed 50/50 5ltrs should be enough for most systems.

That means they are charging £230 for less than an hours work.
Even at 15ltrs mixed that's £220 labour.

Daylight robbery.

Plastic doesn't radiate heat like aluminium and the pipes are part of the heating system as well as the radiator fin sections.

If the correct OAT (Organic Acid Technology) antifreeze (G12+/G13) is used corrosion isn't a problem.
It was developed for aluminium and magnesium cooling system component corrosion protection.

I've got mine booked in, is there much to do in the local area while we wait. ? i.e within walking distance. I don't know the area at all.
It's an afternoon appointment .

As they're on an industrial estate there's not much to do! they did ours outside on the car park so we stayed in the van! There is some rough ground at the end of the road for walking the dog.....if you have one!
