I've just had a long conversation with the repair guys at Crash Data as my repaired module has just come back from repair once again.
He tell me the major failure of the airbag module is due to low voltage on the starter battery.
They have 100x more modules for repair from motorhomes than they have from regular delivery vans.
He suspects it's due to the batteries that are left to go flat or the battery is so old its knackered.
A tip he suggested to turn the ignition on and wait a minute for it to do its self test - then start the engine. Hopefully this will stop the module seeing a low voltage and failing.

To be honest that is the correct way to start any van. Wait for all the self check lights to go out. Some fords if you turn & and start straightaway ,or attempt to, will just fail to start.

It's the correct way to start any modern vehicle. Various ECUs all have to wake up and start talking to each other.

Corruption of ECU memory including the SRS module can also be due to disconnecting or connecting the battery incorrectly - failing to allow the ECUs to go into sleep or low power mode before disconnection or voltage spikes. Also more common on MHs with owners fitting additional electrical items, charging or jump starting flat batteries.
