Air Fryer Pros & Cons and advice on type

We are looking into getting an air fryer, initially for home use, but have no idea what we should be looking for with regard to manufacturer, size or power.

Any ideas and advice from you knowlegable Funsters would be much appreciated please.

I'm doing the same the conclusion I've come to up to now is you need a family size one even for two So much information I keep researching.
I'll be keeping an eye to see what is recommended.

Don’t buy one of these, we did and sent it back after it reduced fries/chips to a mush whatever type we tried.

Brian, we have the smallest Ninja which is perfect for two people. A bit heavy but it does fit in the locker well. Very versatile and even functions as a pressure cooker

Don't know all the tech stuff but did chips in ours last night for the first time, and they were spot on.
It's an all singing all dancing Ninja thing. HRH did a lovely Pork Loin in it on Sat.

I have the same airfryer, and have practically made our ovens redundant. I've done lamb chops and roast potatoes, jacket potatoes, wedges, chicken wrapped in bacon with roast potatoes, made up a cheese leek sauce in pan, poured over chicken in Pyrex dish in airfyer, put onto broil for 5 minutes to grill the top. Delicious. Also use it in moho.

How long did they take and did you cook everything in the air fryer thingy?

This thread has just reminded me, my jacket potatoes are costing 50p to cook in the 1600w combi oven
So just ordered a 650w mini oven £30 on amazon, gets mainly good reviews. Some mention use in vans but I've got a gas oven for that

I have been looking into them but yet to be convinced. After all they are but a small fan oven. We tend to put multiple things in on different shelves in the oven including warming the plates at the end.
With an air fryer, looking at the recipes, the timings are the same as for fan oven but mainly only one room for one item at a time, the recipes often say only one layer at the bottom of pan, not the crammed in chips seen in the promotional ads.

Yes, the wattage is lower than a conventional oven but even at the new cap of .48p per kwh, there is only a saving of one or two kwatts which doesn’t add up to much over a typical oven meal cooking of around an hour including pre-heat which all air fryers need.

So my conclusion was that I don’t want to take up valuable worktop space with another appliance.

We are still learning with ours. Only had it 6/7 months. Looking like it could be a good tool (apart from me) in the ute room.

We bought this Tefal, mainly because it was the only one we could find, really pleased we did now as the single drawer is big enough for us, bigger than the two drawer options.
Everything we have cooked in it so far has turned out fine, we don't use the pre selected options prefer to use the Manual settings.
Will definitely be coming with us in the motorhome.

We have had a Philps air fryer for 6 or 7 years now.

We were put off buying one prior as some people had said that they were useless, while others thought that they were great.
We thought that we would give one a go and it is a great bit of kit.
Cooks a couple of chicken portions in less than twenty minutes keeping them moist and succulent which is a good saving on time and electric cost of cooking them in the oven.
Our air fryer gets used a few times a week to cook all manner of things, and frozen supermarket chips cook in just over ten minutes.

Just the chips as the first test run, they took around 30mins (oven chips would probably be quicker).
The other stuff was done on gas hobs, griddle pan for gammon etc.

we bought a low wattage one from Brownhills (Leisure Wize) and the boss is more than happy with it - we have used it several times whilst travelling through France already (when on hook up) - when we eventually get lithium sorted, hopefully we can run it occasionally through the inverter.

We love our ninja foodi 15 in 1 smart lid..we use it most days and cook loads of stuff in it, in the van. There’s an oven in the van but haven’t used it Yet. Anyway, it’s at to high a level for it to be safe. The Ninja is so much quicker than an oven too.

I've been watching some of the thermamix videos on YouTube. Not sure what the power consumption is but probably to physically big for a motorhome anyway. For my motorhome at least.

I do like them though especially the onscreen instructions for awful cooks like me.

Just under 8A.

10a supply would be needed. On 16a we run the ninja along side a single induction hob.

The large Ninja is 1760 watts so approx 7.3 amps.

Another vote for the Ninja foodi we have just bought the 14 in 1 smart lid to replace our old one.
This one only has one lid instead of the two on the other one.
We use ours most days for all sorts of things.

The small Ninja 6 in 1 uses slightly less WH over 1 hour than our AEG built in oven. It heats up quicker but once the AEG is up to temperature it cuts in far less often, the ninja is constantly switching on and off on the thermostat.

So don't duy it to if you want to save money, sent ours back.

We have an old German halogen oven except it has a regular heating element in the top instead of a halogen bulb.
I can't see any difference between it and an air frier, (other than marketing) but I'm willing to be educated.
